John Deere 3320
Been running my 3320. Over the last couple of days I have noticed when trying to back up I get error code 14. I shut off the machine start it back up and it clears up but it has gotten progressively worse. Having to shut it off and start it several times to get it to move backwards. Finally it has gotten so bad I can't seem to clear it at all! Looked up the code...not any info on fixing it other than calling the dealer which I try to fix my equipment myself. Sounds like it needs to be re-calibrated. Gonna order a tech manual tomorrow but don't want to wait for it to get here to find out how to fix. Anyone here willing to help me?

I'm no mechanic, but here is what the manual says...

Err 14 Pump Current Coil resistance too high
(open) or too low (short).
Machine does not drive. Test the proportional valve coils.
Check 696 Blu and 697 Pur wires
and connections for short or open
circuit.

Thank you, will check the wires again. Does the manual explain how to "Test the proportional valve coils"? And where they are exactly?

Sorry can't help much more than finding this note about a special tool.

Special or Required Tools
Tool Name Tool No. Tool Use
Break-out Box JDG1575 Test
Kit
Test the electrical
circuits of the
electronic drive
controller.

The drive solenoids are located under the floorboard of the pedals. You have to pull of the plastic cover to see them. That's all I can help you with. All else is beyond my knowledge.

Found the drive solenoids. Where do the blue and purple wires go? I need to know how to test the electrical circuits of the electronic drive controller.

If there are any connectors I would start by cleaning and checking them. A flakey connector could cause the resistance to be too high.

Back to the drive controller. As suggested, I would check the connections. Seems like it would have to be in the wiring.

I'd check the connections as other have suggested. Solenoids usually work or don't not intermitant. Check the coil resistance on both.

Maybe, just a thought. Try flipping the 696 and 697 wires between the solenoids. This should reverse the operation of the pedals. If the problem now occurs when attempting to drive forward (by pressing reverse pedal) I would begin to suspect the reverse pedal proportional solenoid valve. If the problem continues to occur when backing up (by pressing the forward pedal) I would suspect the reverse pedal wiring or the controller itself.

Do this at your own risk.

I may be narrowing the search....I switched the plugs on the drive solenoids....Now the reverse pedal works fine making the machine go forward. Same problem when I try to go backwards by pushing the forward pedal. I get error 14. So it seems it must be in the wiring or the controller? Or is there a solenoid valve at the transmission.....a valve that opens and closes by pushing the drive pedals/(solenoids)??

Does anyone know where the electronic drive controller is located?

The technical manual doesn't say (or I can't find it), but it looks to be in the panel below the dash. You really need to buy the manual, it is a wonderful read and chock full of diagnostic info.

Yeah, already ordered it two days ago....no word yet on how long its gonna take to get it. I'm hoping it answers all of my questions but I'm afraid its not going to. I'm pretty good with repairs but with electronics I need hard numbers and procedures to diagnose. Funds are too tight to afford the dealer!

I did a search "code 14" and this post came up, there maybe others out there. While not a 3320 it is a 3720 maybe the same.

I took this out of the post "The procedure [recalibrate] can be done without tools or special equipment. It is in the tech manual. I'm not sure I'm allowed to post that sort of info. I will find out and get back to you later today."

It appears he did send it over private message. He might help you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Cocre! Was able to get it into calibration mode however, am unable to get any calibration from the reverse pedal. Which has left the machine unable to move forward or backwards! I'm starting to wonder if its the drive controller because of some strange things....the first time I tried to calibrate, it read the forward pedal and not the reverse. After trying the reverse several times, I started over. Then the forward pedal would not read....after trying several more times the forward pedal finally read but still no reverse pedal read. So, I switched the wires on the pedal solenoids and tried several times with no success. So, I'm thinking it's possibly the wiring between the pedal solenoids and the controller (which look fine), or, the drive controller. Still waiting on my manual.
Does anyone know the procedure for installing and checking the pedal solenoids? I read on another machine it involves checking voltages opened and closed in line at both solenoids. Need to know what the voltages are supposed to be. I moved the reverse solenoid early on so maybe thats the problem. Anyone with any thoughts?
