The front end loader on my tractor with 190 hours started to operate slow and slower until nothing. I was advised to change the hydraulic fluids and filter. I also cleaned the sump filter. The back hoe was operating up until just prior to the change but now the hoe and bucket do not operate. I cannot tell if the engine mounted gear pump is operating, any suggestions? Is there another screen or filter prior to the pump?

Depending on the type of loader valve, there was a problem for a while with sticky pressure reliefs in the loader valve. There is a 7/8" "bolt" head (or at least it looks like a bolt) on the inside of the valve. With the tractor off and the loader and hoe relaxed, loosen this about two turns then tighten it up. That will unstick it.

Now the bad news, the issue I described is always sudden and does not relate to a slow system, just a system that quits working entirely. So it may not be your problem.

How was the fluid? Clean, gunky?

Fluid was murky discolored & dirty I also found metal chips in the sump filter which gave me the thought that maybe there was not any previous maintenance.

Does your power take off operate? The power take off valve is the first thing in line being powered by the hydraulic pump. Check that and let me know what you find.

I have contacted Mr. LaWall the Mahindra tractor dealer ( see message)who has been a great help in sharing his knowledge, providing a checklist and ordering the pump at a great price. I am now waiting for delivery of a new aluminum pump.

Let the saga continue!

Thanks again to the assistance from Mr. Galen LaWall of Lawall,s Collision & Tractor Sales, Batavia, NY sure wish he was in Massachusetts. Not only did he order the parts at a price better than I could locate locally but he also was concerned enough to call and inquire about my progress.
Which I am more than pleased to report all systems operate as they should by replacing the main pump.
It appears that rear PTO pump will not operate the backhoe unless there is pressure from the main pump to trigger a solenoid for the rear.
