Well the mx4700 seems like overkill for my needs, but I'm sure they'll grow. I just hate the thought of one too large almost as much as too small.

This is a quote I got from a local dealer, this seem about right, high or low?

NEW KUBOTA TRACTOR MX4700HST $21,370.00
46HP KUBOTA DIESEL, 38 PTO HP.,
HYDRO. TRANS., 4WD, R4 TIRES, ROPS
2-SPOOL AUX. HYD. REMOTES

1 NEW KUBOTA LOADER LA844 $5,536.00
INCLUDES: GRILLE GUARD, VALVE,
72" HD Q/A ROUND BACK BUCKET W/
BOLT ON CUTTING EDGE

NEW KUBOTA L4400HST $19,296.00
43HP KUBOTA DIESEL, 36 PTO HP
HYDRO TRANS., ROPS, R4 TIRES
ROPS
1 NEW KUBOTA LOADER LA703 $4,682.00
INCLUDES: VALVE, GRILLE GUARD,
72" STD BUCKET & INSTALLATION
CIR FOR KUBOTA STD BUCKET ($500.00)
:confused2:

And the 3700 quote too....

NEW KUBOTA L3700SUHSTP $14,716.00
37HP KUBOTA DIESEL, 30 PTO HP.,
HYDRO TRANS, ROPS, R4 TIRES, 4WD

1 NEW KUBOTA LA463FL $3,989.00
INCLUDES: VALVE, GRILLE GUARD,
60" BUCKET & INSTALLATION
KUBOTA CIR STD L SERIES LOADER ($500.00)

So you can see why if I'm jumping up to the 4400 I'm thinking the 4700 makes more sense.

He doesn't have any of these in stock, so I've yet to see one. He did have a mx5100 though.

I live in Alachua Co & bought a new L3940 last month. What can I say, I like bells & whistles! Been running an old 5' Ford bush hog quite a bit. Handles the 5-footer fine, but I only hog ~1.5" & smaller trees. Anything bigger I jump off & saw it down. I'm sure it would handle a 6-footer fine as long as you realize it will have tree size limitations (of course all tractors do). Obviously it also helps if you can hog one tree at a time rather than several or a bunch.

Philip,

How do you like your terf tires?

I found a good deal on a L5740, and it has foam filled rears, terfs all-around. I would like to buy it; the concern about the terf tires is the only concern. I would prefer not to buy another set of tires (likely R4) and rims.

My terrain is not too hilly. Just slopes around the tanks and creek. There are 3 tanks (north to south) that are filled from regional drainage flowing into the northern-most, across pasture, to the middle, across pasture, into southern-most, and finally flows off property. Since it is north Texas, the pasture is most often dry, but with rain the sandy clay gets soupy.

I appreciate your insight.

Thanks,
Erik

sbohan,

you can find the "turbo" thread by searching my user name "ecoslik." After reading all the INCREDIBLE AND THOUROUGH responses to the question, I must say that I am no longer concerned if to "turbo or not." IMHO, I was put at ease about the reliability of a tractor with a turbo.

Well, it appears the grands even the 3240 and 3540 have the same or better lifting as the 5100 with it's telescoping links too. So the 3940 appears to be a real contender again; I just worry about missing the 4400 or 4700's HP. If I could live with the 3540, I could maybe even swing the cab. Which @94 degrees the A/C could be a huge difference.

What county are you in?

Yeah, it's been hot as cr@p lately ... Been working on a plywood canopy for mine. Shade's better than nothin'.

I'm not sure where you live but I would check out Barlows (if you haven't already). I'm in the middle of buying a 4240 (has the larger loader than the 3940) with a quick attach FEL and a front mount blower. I don't have a break down but I would say the price is about what you've been quoted for the MX4700 including delivery.
