3720 cab vs open air

WOW Great feedback.. I searched on the JD site for the overall height of the 3720 with cab, Does anyone have that measurment? My shelter is exactly 8 feet tall. Hope that is tall enough.

I'm sure the 3720 cab with smaller R4 tires will fit thru a 90" door (7.5') but with very little room to spare. That is what I have. For 8' door height, the larger R4's and R1's are probably close. Hopefully someone will answer for the larger tires.

What about we the change the title from 'cab vs open air' to 'cab vs second honeymoon vacation'. Happy wife, happy life. :D OK if I had a cab, I'd be happy to. But eventually you have to come out of the cab and go inside.

Loool, I had to sacrifice the front loader for my wife to have the cab, option which she really wanted.

I don't know the cab but this is the info Deere sent me on the small and large R4 tires for the open 3x20 series:

small R4s = 91.8"
Large R4s = 92.5"

Well you can add the wheel spacers to widen your track but I would consider a 4320 cab too. Not much more money and alot more tractor. More stable with a wider stance I am very satisfied with the 4520 cab.

Agreed.... Do I wish I had a 4x20 Cab? Kinda Sorta....alot of things factored into my decision...
A) Price difference between a 3x and 4x was stupid for me...they pratically paid me to drive the 3520 Cab they had on the lot away . Long story, not really on topic for this post.
B) I only have 2 acres...pretty sure my 3520 is more then enough considering I also have a F935 to handle mowing.
C) Height...the fact a 3x20 cab with Large R4's easily fits in a 8' door was a plus.

IMO, the lack of stabilty of these machines is grossly exaggerated, yes, you are not driving a Formula 1 car, but you are also not driving a unicyle. My feeling on the subject is that it feels worse then it actually looks. When I first got my 3520 I thought to myself, what the heck did I just buy, but a couple years later I am very comfortable with what it can and cant do. I dont think its any worse then some other colored CUT's I've driven.

Dave,
Well I am certainly no expert on the 3X20 machines as I only tried the 3720 cab tractor on the dealers lot. Tried out a 4720 and the 4520 next and decided on the 4520 and ordered it. Since I had some implements for the 110tlb that were sized just right for the 4X20 machines it was a no brainer. At the time when looking at the 3720 I couldn't picture it handling the larger boxblade or MX6 I already had. I could picture myself having to remove the hoe from the 110 for the higher draft tools and buying a new dedicated tractor was the whole purpose of this.

My open air tractor, the 820 with canopy weighs about 4000 lbs before ballasting so it works well with the existing implements too. My point being that it is important to make sure the big picture works for you. From the tasks that need to be done, time available to do the work, implements available that fit the jobs and finally a tractor that fits these jobs. If I didn't perform custom work I could easily get by without a tractor but I ain't doing that.:D

We should make that sentence a sticky here in the buying forum. There is a reason all MFG's offer various sizes, tires, hp's, features, etc... What works for me might not work for you or vice versa.

I've said it before..in the perfect world, MY personal perfect machine would have been this:
-Deere 110 with Green Paint, I'll call it the 1120 LOL
-Factory Cab identical to the 3x20/4x20
-Deluxe Interior like the 3x20/4x20 Machines
-3pt Hitch (no Hoe for me)

If I coulda gotten that, man...that would be the perfect machine.

That' right Steve, it's only rated for the MX5 cutter.

We can debate this further, But I personally would'nt buy a MX5 for my 3520...it would be an MX6 or nothing at all.
We've had this discussion on various other attachments (Snowblowers, Mowers, BB's, etc) and some people like to undersize attachments. I think a 35/3720 is a 6' machine and I wont buy anything smaller then 6' for it. Heck, I've put many hours on our L2900 GST with a 6' Bush Hog and my 3520 has way more grunt then the 2900. I have zero doubt in my mind that a 6' bush hog of any color is what belongs behind a 35/3720.

I think that the MX6 is not rated for the 3x20's because of its weight. I have an MX5 on my 3720 and you have to have the loader on the front when you lift it. There is a lot of weight a long way behind the lift points of the tractor and that might push the edge of what Deere will recommend. If your careful, you could use a 6 foot cutter all day as power on the 35 and 3720 should not be an issue. Its picking the unit up and transporting it.

I ordered a MX6 for the 4520 I have on order and I assume that will be small for that tractor, although it will still be heavy.... Its 1,000 pounds.....

Gotcha.....if I were buying a RC, I'd get the SQ172 @ 764lbs. But that does make sense.
Still..if I had access to a MX6 to test, I'd like to try it...just to say...
