Tractor
JD 5203, JD 3720, JD 4110, JD 445, IH 1586, IH 886, IH 404......
I have 34 hours on my tractor and I have the 300cx loader on it....

After moving about 60 yards of sand with the tractor one long day, it has started smoking a lot more on start up. I get blips of hesitation in the forward and reverse hydraulics.

Since the tractor was new, the bucket was flimsy when using the hydraulics to lower it. It makes it hard to "back blade" with it.... Going up has always been solid....

My 4115 seems like it held up better than this machine...

Any idea on what might be the issue?

What do you mean by "forward and reverse hydraulics?" Are you referring to the hydrostatic transmission while moving the tractor forwards or backwards?

I only have a couple of thoughts:

1. cycle the loader in all directions. Bottom everything out and let it labor. This would purge any air that might be in the lines/cylinders.

2. The additional smoke could be anything from a plugging fuel or air filter, to the operator being "overly observant." By that I mean that when one thing goes wrong, we sometimes tend to scrutinize everything else and find "new" problems. These new problems may in fact be nothing new at all.

I too have noticed that the bucket on my CX loader seems a bit limp wristed at times. But when I move the stick, it does dump or curl with full force. I figured this was just the nature of the beast.

A good bit of smoke at start up is normal. Does your loader joystick work smoothly, ir could the pivots be getting stiff? Mine got sticky and I had to spray it. It's been fine ever since.

By "bucket gets flimsy", do you mean the bucket rollback gets loose and floppy after you dump?

I sort of recognize you by the Avatar, but don't want to confuse you with someone. Does Point beer ring a bell?

Thanks guys.

The bucket issue seems to be normal. I went to a local dealer and theur 300 cx was the same..

I am also on The diesel place, and diesel garage. I bet thats where you see the avatar, but point beer means nothing?

I think the smoke is since its getting colder.. but ti just happened after i moved a ton of sand...

The blips going forward and reverse have not happened snce, and i have another 2 hours on it... I think its time to flush the hydro fluid and get a new filter just in case.

I was supprised to hear JD wants this done at 50 hours...

I have read some time ago that an owner started to have a jerky tranmission. He was advised to change and clean the filters and change the fluids in the tranmission. I think he had only 70 or so ours on his machine. When he was done he had no more problems.
My dealer said to wait on the fluid change until 200 hrs IF I had no problems. If I did then change the fluids.
So far I have not had problems up to 155 hrs and the 3520 has done some pretty heavy work for a HST. Plowed 2.5 acres of land as well as a lot of loader work.
It could be one of the filters has done it's job and now needs a little cleaning.

GreenMtn, If you originally changed your hyd fluids and filters at the 50 hr mark, than disregard this post.
When I read your post I got the impression you are waiting till 200 hrs. for your intitial hyd fluid and filter change.
My thoughts would be to change fluids/filter @ 50 hrs. During manufacturing/assembly/ and sitting on dealers lot contamenants/condensation get into your system. Also during the intitial break in period, while the parts are adapting to mesh together at speed small pieces of excess metal shavings dirt/dust/moisture begin to flush thru your system. You may not notice any additional wear these contamenants are causing till many hrs down the road. After your intitial fluid/filter change than yes your good to go for another 200-300 hrs or 24 months.
Just my $00.02. Frank
