The knob for adjusting the 3ph raising/lowering speed on my BX, located under the seat, is frozen. Can't adjust clock wise or counterclockwise. Has anybody had that problem? Any trick to get it un-frozen or is a trip to the shop in the cards? It's really not a big deal right now - but I'll sure want to get it fixed before the warrenty runs out.
Thx,
R

Since I'm assuming the 3-point raises and lowers, then the adjustment valve is NOT closed, so if it were me, I'd just get a firm grip and turn that thing. I'd probably give it a little shot of WD-40 at the base of the stem first. It's probably just stuck a bit from lack of use. And I think you'll find it adjusts the speed with which the 3-point drops, but not raises. And now, I'll tell you that I'm not a mechanic; just giving a purely personal opinion, so you might want to just call your dealer's service department and ask them what they'd do./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I had the same problem with my L3000DT. The 3PH would go up and down so the control valve was stuck in an open position. I called the dealer, they sent a tech. problem solved.

I was reluctant to give the knob a mighty twist myself if anybody was going to break something I wanted it to be them not me. I don't know if the two are related but my 3PH stopped working, lifting up and down a little while after that.

After a trip back to the dealer they found some "forgien" material in the pressure relief valve in the 3PH hydraulic circuit. I'd suggest you call the dealer if it is still under warrentte.

it adjusts the speed with which the 3-point drops, but not raises

That would match my own experience and (coincidentally) my L2500DT owner's manual.

Roger

My old L185 knob was frozen also. I hit it with some WD40 and carefully turned it with some multi-grips.

Never used much more force than I could with my hands, but used them just to get a better grip on the knob.

Now it works fine.

But yes, I'd be hesitant to put too much force on the knob.

Cheers

(PS - Mine looks like the one in harv's diagram but mine is some 30 years old - Not much has changed hey?)

It is not really frozen. Lower the 3-point and put a glove on and grab the knob and turn it. For some reason if it is not used regularly it will apppear to freeze up. This has happened to mine a couple of times. I checked with the dealer and he said to turn it from time to time. It will turn easier with no load on the 3-point.

Yup, per prior posts, it's lowering speed only. Some things on tractors tend to get ornery if not used frequently, and the lowering speed knob is one of them (for another example, the clutch pedal has a disengage hook, & if you don't use such when your tractor sits unused over the winter months, you could find it stuck in the Spring). That's fair, as I get ornery if I can't use my tractor frequently.
So, sit your 3pt attachment on the ground (full down position), squirt some WD or Boeshield around knob shaft, and twist it hard with the implement of your choice (in the unlikely event that you previously had the knob turned fully clockwise or counterclockwise - you better remember which way you can now turn without breaking something)>

Thanks guys. I'll give the WD-40 and elbow grease method a try tomorrow.

I have the same prob and started another thread but I will use this info on my MX5000 today.

I had one of these stickers on a BX and I just gripped it and turned it. The knob was plastic with a metal insert that gripped the stem. It cracked the plastic small shaft on the plastic handle so the knob tuned freely after that, it wasn't doing anything but it did turn very easily. May want to do some spraying liberally with WD40 then try turning.
