3PH To drag style conversion for box blade??

I have a 6' 3PH box blade and have been thinking about adding lift wheels on the back, and a removable tongue so I could use it as a drag style, or remove the tongue raise the wheels and use it as a normal 3PH style. Has anyone done this, and if so how did it turn out.

It would be difficuly to do with acceptable results.

One of the best features of using a boxblade is to be able to adjust the toplink to make the rippers really dig and then to adjust it again to move lots of dirt. Having a 2PH connected to a toung with wheels in the back would defeat this ability.

Sure it can be done, but I don't think it would be worthwhile for the time and money involved.

Why were you wanting to do this anyway???

Basically have it work as a 3PH box blade or be able to use it as a drag scraper like this.

I think it would work exellent. I have used both types and loved the control that the back wheel lift gives. I always thought I could level better with the back wheel type. Both have their place and if you can make it dual purpose, sounds like a win win to me.

I thinking it should, no more than I would use either style the dual purpose is what I'm look at. I have most of the stuff lying around and would not have to purchase but a very limited amount of material, I was also thinking of making a Storage mount for the tongue on the rear of the box blade so when using in 3PH mode I would always have everything with me in case I needed to switch over to the drag style. Plus all the added metal will help with adding weight to the blade. I hope to get to work on the plans pretty quick and get started on the fabrication soon.

it should be simple to do, make a tongue that will attach to the three point of the machine, and then make a lift wheels that attach to the rear, (the wheels do not need to be removed to use with three point, (in some instances they many help), if you do make it bolt on assembly the wheels would be removable,

Brown makes a 6 ft pull behind speed mover that can be converted to a 3pt box blade by pulling a few pins and removing the rear axle and tongue. A home made version shouldn't be too hard to make.

I don't believe there would be any difference if both types were in float, but if the drag type back wheels are set at a determined point it will dig at the high spots and fill in the low spots. All the 3 points I have run in float just dug all the time and were good for moving dirt from point a to point b.
