3PT Generator Question

/ 3PT Generator Question #21
In response to the fuel consumption notes above, engine rpm's do not tell the entire story. Fuel consumption is based mainly on engine load. The actual engine rpm is a minor factor in fuel use.

You can run your Kubota at 3000 rpms for an hour with no load and it will not go through all that much fuel. Run it at 3000 rpms with a heavy load and it will consume many times more fuel.

/ 3PT Generator Question #22
I run a Voltmaster 15/12 (12kW / 15kW surge), PTO generator for my BX2660. Plenty of juice for the whole house when connected via a whole house transfer switch.

//http://www.voltmasteramerica.com/products/PTO15_12.htm,

I use a Klein digital multimeter to monitor the output frequency, which hovers between 60.0 and 60.2Hz with the BX2660 running at around 2980 rpm.

Although you could hear a difference at the generator when we fired up both the washer and dryer along with the usual computers, stereo, lights, etc., the cycles per second didn't flinch from 60Hz. The Kubota didn't complain a bit. During a recent 5 hour test run we consumed about 3 gallons of diesel.

/ 3PT Generator Question #23
I have been looking at possibly buying a 3pt generator instead of using my gas powered in cases of lost power, i figure i need the tractor to haul the genny from the barn to the house anyway, why not just get a 3pt.

Question one is what RPM does the tractor have to run at to work? Does it matter?

Also does anyone have experience with them? Are they worth purchasing?

figure 2 pto hp per kw generated.. and you usually need 540 rpm on the pto for correct voltage and freq at the genny.

i use a northern tools 12.5kw unit. works great.. it's on a 3pt carryall.,
