Mith........with the "quick link" attachment system, you can interchange between straight shaft trimmer heads or curved shaft trimmer heads, using the same powerhead, as well as blower, cultivator, edger and chain saw type tree trimmer attachments, all using the same unit for power.

I purchased a Honda 4 stroke weed eater for approx $225 (4 stroke). It is easy starting, seeps fuel, and is quiet. It is heavier than the 2 stroke it replaced, but the weight is not a factor as the weedwacker is balanced. I can hold it naturally without the strap like I had to use on the 2 stroke. I will never have a 2 stroke of anything again if I can purchase a 4 stroke in it's place.

I have the Ryobi version of this that I purchased in '97 or '98. Has been very reliable and no problems. I do a lot of work with it. I have the blower/vac, tree trimmer, snow blower, cultivator, string trimmer, and brush blade. I usually do 1 oil change on it a year (takes about 30 seconds to do - usually takes me longer to mix up a gallon of gas mix for 2 cycles). I finally decided last spring to change the plug. More because I felt guilty because I hadn't ever done it rather than out of necessity - still haven't change the air filter though.

Has been a pretty good trimmer. I believe it was priced at $179 or $189 though I didn't pay that. The cashier ended up screwing up at Lowes when I purchased it. I was buying several things that added up to about $800 and I didn't even realize that she didn't charge me for it until 2 or 3 weeks later when I looked at the receipt. She was so worried about charging me for the $2 ground strap for the pool that she forgot the $200 weedeater. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Point in case of just how ignorant the EPA is,,,, Ok the 4 strokes on trimmers with a sump thats ok...... But the 4 strokes that have Gas-oil mix will still smoke and polute if the Mix is to rich ,, So their crap of blaming 2 strokes for smoke and a 4 stroke with gas-oil mix aint solving a **** thing ,,,,

I have a Honda 4-stroke. Off the top of my head, I think it is the UMK-22 (?). I know that the engine says GX-22 on it.

I bought the thing in 2001, and loved it for a while. Ran really quietly, and always started... until recently.

Despite regular oil changes and relatively light use, it quit starting over the summer. Brought it to the dealer, and they did $50 of work on it, saying that it was gaskets and o-rings and such. It was used a few times between then an now, and yesterday, I could not start the darn thing up again.

I'm seriously thinking about buying a Stihl (or maybe Echo) 2-stroke while they are still available. I am finding that as my number of machines increase, my patience for extra maintenance decreases...

-----------
Go with a Stihl forget the Echo.

The Stihl has more crankshaft bearings than the Echo has.
It's almost impossible to tangle weeds around the shaft of my Stihl. And it's easer to clear the weeds it they do happen to tangle.I have never seen another trimmer work as well on that.

Anyone see a weed whacker with a headlight on it ? I seem to run out of daylight before I get everything done in the summertime.

you could tape a torch to the shaft /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
my method is to hang it off the side of the mower while taking the last ride round the hedgeline - sure saves you back /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
and i gotta agree with LBrown - stihl is the better make, but only marginally
