Hi Bill....

Glad to see you back in the forums. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I trust things are moving along positively for you since last time we communicated.

Hi Jim...

The lever used for the operation of the JD unit is not on the floorboard however... it is actually at the base of the Loader joystick...

Right you are Jim. The lever protrudes from the black cowling or housing in an elevated position that's directly in front of and at the base of the FEL joystick. It's the cowling that rises from the floorboard. Sorry for the confusion.

Summer's getting long and hot and very busy. I trust you're just as satisfied with your 4310 as I am with my 4710. These tractors sure are beauts.....expensive but I feel worth every penny I spent.

Any special projects you're working on Jim besides pulling stumps and burying rocks? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Algray,

I think Bob has pretty much covered all the details. I have
a 4700 with the 460 4n1 bucket. Its an awesome piece of
equipment. I very large percentage of my work on the tractor
is with the 4n1. It would greatly effect the efficiency of what
I do if I lost the 4n1.

Did I sell you one yet? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Last week, which is why I'm
a bit late responding to the thread, I used the 4n1 and the
box blade to move 176 TONS of ABC bulding 600 feet of
driveway. Well, it will be 600 feet long, I have a few
hundred more feet to go but I moved 13 loads at around 16
tons a dump. Got about 4-5 loads to go. The 4n1 really
helps.

One difference in my setup and Bobs is that I do have the
diverter value button on the FEL control stick. I much
prefer this setup than having the button somewhere else
since I don't have to take my hand of the FEL when I'm
operating. The mechanic at my dealer who works on the CUT
ain't the brightest bulb in the tree but he managed to get
the 4n1 plumbing mostly right.

The one thing he really fouled up was he did not tuck and
lock the hydraulic hoses on the bucket. My first few hours
working the bucket one of the hoses slipped between the
back of the bucket and one of the cylinders and POOOFFFF
I had a leak. I WAS NOT a happy camper.....

But I do have a JD 4n1 bucket with an add on controller...

Hope this helps....

Al. I have never seen a JD 4in1 but do have a Long 4in1 on my L4610, have 180 hrs. on it and would not have a tractor with out one. This one has a button on the stick and i belive is the only way to go. I don't know if you like HST or gears but thats how I would look at this, HST = button soooo if you like to move fast I would take a listen to your dealer. Oh I would buy another Long in a heart beat. Photo enclosed.

Couldn't find a web site for Long. Are you aware of one?

Here's long's # 1800-823-4570 They don't do computers???? But they are good people, you have to go through a dealer. You can check on carver's site they sell them. Just had to show ya this photo, these things are great.

Wow Rich...did you pluck that tree with the 4in1 /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif?

Al....this Long bucket is also a good bucket, similar to the JD bucket in appearance. You'll note there's a toothbar on the bucket edge. You should also think about getting one of these. As John Miller once said, you'll think your tractor was on steriods with a toothbar.

BTW...this is the bucket (Long) that my JD dealer was recommending over the factory part. The "action shots" indicate a pretty tough piece of gear!

Glad you noticed the tooth bar it is also a big time saver! Yep we ripped that tree out right by the roots!! you can beat this thing for moving just about anything. Take note of the rods I welded on the side of the bucket to better grabe the logs.

OK, didn't realize this when you first posted. I thought it was a no brand name 4in1 bucket. In the case of the Long, I don't think you could go wrong. I've heard good things about them here in the forums. Which one you go for is up to you. In either case, I don't think you could go wrong. If you go with Long, just make sure it's compatible with JD's quick hitch FEL.

I also just re-read your original post and the primary question seemed to be how this bucket was operated...either by a Fasse valve button on the FEL joystick or by lever. The type of bucket you purchase (ie, either Long or JD) and how it's operated are independent of each other. It all depends on how you want your dealer to set up the hydraulics. I would think you could purchase a Long with either a Fasse valve or lever controlled operating hydraulics, your preference.
