4 Month Old T2220 W/Hydraulic Problem

We'll I need to use the tractors again,

I started up the T2220, yes it was cold out -5,
yes she wined a little so I went and took a planned
break with her warming up. The other Day my wife
and I zip stripped a small piece of carboard to the
radiator and the HYD coolers, this really helped the
use of the FEL and general movement of the tractor
today. I love this tractor!!!!!!!

I used my T2320 today. 28 degrees outside, sat for the last two months in an unheated garage. Temperatures have been below feezing for the last 1.5 weeks, and 2' of snow on the ground. No issues with the hydraulics or steering. I will ask the dealer but i am sure they used the regular fluid (134?). I let is warm up for about 5 minutes. I would keep after the dealer, there may be something else going on.

Hey all, I wondered if anyone has seen an issue like this. I have a 5 month old T2220 w/loader. 2 weeks ago I went up to my enclosed unheated garage and started the tractor. It was about 25 deg F. It would lift the loader and 3 point but would not steer. I moved the steering wheel back and forth and it finally started to work. Called the dealer and they came down to get it. After sitting overnight outside it did the same for them only all hydraulics were not working. New Holland recomended the all season thinner weight hydraulic oil which they did and that did not fix the problen although it was better. Then New Holldand recomended a transmission heater which the dealer installed. The dealer told me that he talked to some other dealers in our area and no one else seems to be having this problem. I am told that the T2220 has a new system that uses a common resivoir for steering and everything. It seems to me that thinner fluid and a trans heater is a Bandaid for a true problem. Any ideas/comments?

I am a dealer and have noticed the same thing on new machines we have on the lot. Does working the steering wheel back and forth a few times get it to start working?

It does seem to be a new issue. New Holland official stance right now is to switch to F200A oil and plug the trans heater in for four or five hours before use.

Yes working the steering back and forth several times did help initially but as the problem got worse it would not work so well. My dealer called and they said that they found a loose fitting in the hydraulic return line. I'm not sure if that would do anything or not. I have it back now and I have been trying to try it without using the trans heater. I want to get an idea if anything is better with it. It seems to be better but the steering is very slow on start up although it does steer.

I have developed a new issue as of 2 days ago. When I start the tractor it starts to idle and then the RPM shoot up to the point where if I didn't shut it down it would keep going until it blows up. This is with the throttle all the way down. If I start it and shut it down 3 or 4 times then it will idle normally. I called the dealer and he said his new T2220 on his lot is doing the same thing. He has contacted New Holland and they are trying to figure out a fix for this. They think that it has something to do with the thick cold fuel and the fuel pump. I'm not sure. Any ideas on this problem?

Hudstone, do you ever want to send NH an invoice for prototype testing of their tractor? Sheesh!

That sounds like a heck of an idea. I am finding it hard to feel too good about my new tractor purchase. I bought a new TC30 before this one and had great luck with it for 3 years. Hopefully this will be it for the problems.

Ask CNH to refund your purchase price, since you have had so many problems, tell them if they refund you the purchase price, you will buy another CNH tractor.

Hey Hudstone,

What blend of fuel and additives are you and the dealer running??? Are the T2220 at the dealer all new units??
Now you've got me thinking I better keep a eye on our
tractor.

I hope they find a legit fix for this. That really sucks if you had t use it in an emergency.

Good luck all.

I have been using No. 1 diesel fuel with Power Service Products Diesel Fuel Additive. Website Power Service Products, diesel fuel additives, prevent gelling, clean injectors, disperse water, boost cetane, reduce emissions, improve fuel economy I have used this product for several years and have never had an issue so I don't think that it has anything to do with that. I'm not sure what the dealer is running for additives but he uses No1 diesel also. The dealer that I have purchased my last 2 tractors at is a fairly small dealer. He ussually only carries 2 or 3 compact tractors. At the moment he only has 1 new T2220 and that one he says has this latest issue with the high reving on startup. I have only let it go up to about 2200 rpm before I shut it down but it sounds like it would go until it blows up. I still have not heard from him if they have a (fix???) for this. Maybe I will have a block heater, trans heater, and a fuel heater when this is all done. I should at least get an electricity allowance from CNH if this keeps up. I'm not sure if there is a lemon law for tractors in Wisconsin. We do have one for vehicles though. I may have to check into it. Either way I think that I would purchase a New Holland again. Between my Father and I we have purchased 5 new New Holland tractors in the last 7 years and this is the first problem that either of us has run into.
