$4000 to spend on lawn/light duty garden tractor

What I think is funny is that the Cub has a rather large hump under the seat area for a shaft that is only an inch or so in diameter (probably designed by the marketing department). On the engine - both will likely outlive the chassis (as long as you change oil once or twice a season). Although the Kohler does have a nasty habit of sometimes giving off an extra pop when turning it off - it doesn't seem to be a major issue (other folks on this forum have seen this too). BTW - The best engines out there tend to be the Honda red top engines (the blue are their consumer line). The red ones are top notch but you pay dearly for the quality.

In any case - good luck with your purchase - both will likely do what you need.

How does the Kawasaki (Deere X340) match up with the Briggs Vanguard?

Kawasaki makes a great engine... some people say they are the best. All the machines your looking at have quality engines. B&S Vangaurd, Kawasaki, Kohler Command, and Honda are all high on my list and I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of them.

Before I make my final decision between the Cub GT2554, Deere X340, and Simplicity Conquest 20/50, I'll take one final peek at that 'deal' on the Cub GT3100 (50" deck) for $4100 + tx. The specs say that it's ground speed is a very fast 8.0 MPH, but when I test drove it a couple of weeks ago, I would guess it wasn't doing even 5 MPH...not sure why. The 8.0 MPH would be a huge selling point to me despite it's poor turning radius (I think 27"). Anyone have experience with the CC GT3100??

I have about 2 1/2 acres (of mowable lawn.
1*About half of it is rather uneven and bumpy.
2*So, because of the uneven terrain, I felt I needed something fairly stout.

3* Deere LA150 or Cub 1554 (about $3000 out the door)
4*Cub 2550 (about $3500 out the door)

1*I don't think you really want a lawn tractor for this.
2*That would be a garden tractor rather than a lawn tractor.

3*These are lawn tractors.
4*This is a garden tractor .
The garden tractor is only 500 more than the lawn tractor.
That's like 20 cents difference on a can of beans at the grocery store.

5*If the 3100 is all rite none of the other offers you've mentioned can touch it.
The 4100 you're looking at includes a mower deck.
The Cub site shows $4900 for the 3000 and that's without a mower.
Add a deck and you're probably at about 6100 for the same thing you can get for 4100.
Are any of the prices on any of the other tractors you've mentioned at 2000 dollars off regular price?
6*Why?> What good is that on bumpy ground where you have to slow sown anyway just to stay in the seat and keep from jarring your guts out.

Well here is my 2 cents:
The best DEAL is the 3000 series Cub Cadet, and for the extra strength I personally would stretch my budget to get it, but you most recently asked what tractor offered the features you need without extra unneeded stuff, and I'd have to say the 2500 series Cub probably fits your requirements the best. High quality tranny, strong axles, load pulling capability on slopes, and shouldn't rattle apart on your bumpy lawn for many years.

3*Simplicity Conquest 22 HP with 50" deck (Briggs Vanguard)--$4250 out the door.
4*All three are garden tractors.
5*the Simplicity has the slip differential.
6*which of the two (Cub's GT 2500 series and the Simplicity Conquest) is more solidly built?
Z z Z z Z

1*my 2554 was 3499 out the door
2*Why pay 3900 for a 2554 when you've been offered a new left over 3100 with a full new warranty for only 4100? Hay only 200 bucks more for a 3100 is a no brainer.
The 2554 is a 3900 dollar tractor for 3900 bucks, but the 3100 is a 6100 dollar tractor for 4100 bucks; now what's so hard about seeing the best buy here?
3* $4250 for a 4250 yard tractor sill don't beat a $6100 Garden tractor for $4100.
4*Not So Sure About That ---> I was just looking at my Simplicity Brochure <> The Conquest is listed as a yard tractor in it. A yard tractor is between a garden tractor and a lawn tractor.
You have to move up to a Prestige to get into a garden tractor with Simplicity.
5*It is engaged automatically, so you don't have to push any knobs or engage any levers.
When you hit a slick spot it works just the opposite of most rear ends.
Instead of the power being transferred to the wheel with the least traction it is applied to the wheel with the most traction.
6*The 2554 is a garden tractor/the Conquest is listed as a yard tractor which is a little better than a lawn tractor but not quite as good as a garden tractor.

If you look at the build specs for the Simplicity Conquest, it's at least as much of a garden tractor as the Cub 2500's. The only question is the K66. I don't know enough about Tuff Torq to know where that stands in comparison to the Cub unit. But considering it's got that limited slip feature, I would guess it's pretty rugged.

UPDATE: Dealer offered $3700 'out-the-door' for the CC2554. Out the door for the CC3100 (50") would be around $4200.
