What makes me mad is my dealership said the axle seal was under powertrain warranty before they picked it up. Now that they have the tractor in the shop its a different story.

Well dealer just called and said both rear axle shafts needs to be replaced because there is grooving in the axle shaft

Do you think this could be an over torqueing issue when it was at the factory?

No.

Seems to be a compatibility issue between axle material and seal material. No way the proper seal could wear a groove in a steel axle in 400 hours.

Those axles would have been butter soft and not able to support the weight of the tractor. If it had constant contact with some very abrasive material, maybe. But that probaably would have destroyed the seal long before the shaft.

Is it possible for the plastic of the seal to desintegrate and only the sping (in some oil seals) to be contacting the shaft? That might create a very slight grove. As it was leaking, that would even lessen any possible damage though.

I think next tractor will be a yanmar yt359c. They have a 10yr 3000hr powertrain warranty, that's saying something about there product!

YANMAR is number one in my books. But you can have all the warranty in the world and it's worthless unless it's honoured and applied effectively.

Like this tool they been looking for they are blaming it on the pandemic. Its not like the 4 series is a brand new model tractor, its been around since 2014. No reason not to have all the tools and parts to make a repair!

Most soaps are very alkaline and when used with a pressure washer, they can be forced into the seals. That can lead to corrosion in the seal/bearing area. If this repair is not warranty, the old parts are yours. I'm sure we all would be interested to see pictures of the "worn" parts.
