Tractor
John Deere 4050. 6130d
Brand new member here. Needin some good answers. I have a 86 model 4050 John Deere. Tractor has a problem that I hope someone can help with. When the tractor gets hot after you have really worked it it's will not start. It will Turn :)over but will not fire. Starts great when cold or if you just idle around moving hay or something. Doesn't seem to have much blowby and uses no oil. The only thing that I have noticed it that when you put it under a load it blows no black smoke. Any thoughts.

Th only thing I have heard of is this might be an injection pump issue. That when it gets hot the clearance inside the pump gets to large and it won't start.

I agree hard(running temp) starting could be inj pump related. It could also be worn bushings in the starter motor or hyd related. If hyd related you could try installing a hyd pump destroking screw part # AR96625 FIELD INSTALLATION KIT, SCREW, HYD ADD 14.44 USD

Does the engine crank over normal or is it slow when it warm?

Yes it turns over a little slower but it just turns over but doesn't fire until it cools down. It has to sit for around an hour or so before it will fire. Tractor seems to be down on power too. I had brakes put on it a few months back and while it was at the dealer I had them put it on the dyno. It peaked at 105 hp but fell of pretty quick when they put a load. I wish I would have had them check the compression. Any ideas after reading this?

A little more info. Had some problems with the alternator so I put new batteries and a new alt. I was hoping that was my problem. If the hydraulics are the problem are there any other symptoms that I would see? I have had a lot of problems out of this tractor. I bought if off of tractor house and I believe the guy saw me coming. I have replaced both hydraulic pumps and rebuilt the entire hyd system rebuilt the clutch pack and new brakes. Thats just to mention the big stuff.

Alot of equipment jockeys on Tractor house. They charge a arm/leg to advert but they do have good coverage. Once you get that 4050 up and runnin it should be a good tractor.

I actually bought it from an individual. He had it posted on there for sale. I love the tractor and have put several hours on it. I think if I can get this fixed it should be real close to 100 percent. I know he had to know the tractor had several problems. Maybe just forgot to mention them.

sounds like a fuel problem.i would put a new filter on it and check to see if the fuel line has some trash restriction.then check the pump.

Is it a heat problem or a time problem? If the fuel tank vent is plugged, the vacuum will pull back fuel and starve the motor. After an hour it may have repressurized but siphoned off the pump. Will it fire with starting fluid or not?

how about pulling an injector and watching it pulse.
