I'd like to thank each and everyone of you guys for your comments. I spent the last several days burning brain cells by surfacing the net. And it occurred to me the answer that I was after has already been posted over at
TBN . So, I decided to put the tire where the thread meets the pavement so to speak. I was going to order the first gun through
Buds Gun Shop but remembered that most posted about hands-on (feel). Even thou the prices at Buds Gun Shop is very appealing. I was not ready to lay some cash down cause I didn't have the option of being able to have the gun put in my hand, plus time is a factor as well. I will say this, my next purchase will be from BGS cause I will have time to go to places to see and feel the weapons and then I can go back home and purchase the gun from BGS.
Ok, went to several gun shops and my experience was, most were trying to sell me a weapon based on there experience. I told all of them what I wanted from this gun (ie: comfort, caliber, barrel length, reliability, ammo cost and so forth, ~all these came from this thread~). Blah, Blah, Blah is about all I heard and made up my mind to go to one last gun shop before returning from empty handed. Upon walking through the front doors, The belligerent Marine in me, had an off the wall idea off asking about a M198 howitzer
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f4/155fire.jpg since nobody had one and probably didn't have any experience with or had even been around one of them (0811 was not my MOS). Well, I explained what I wanted and this is his response, he told me to walk around and pick out the gun I wanted and he'd sell me what I wanted and that I'd get what I wanted cause I'd be the one picking it out, not some salesman trying to sell me one based on there experience or there per take. I told him no thanks, I'll look else were for my howitzer and walked out.
The next day I decided to go to the most expensive place around here. Wait for it, if you haven't guessed yet, Gander Mountain. Let me say this, these folks were really down to earth people. And the person I dealt with was really a good guy. I ended up buying a
Springfield Armory XD Service Model .45acp.
Gander Mountain Springfield XD 45 Service Handgun :
After doing the paperwork for the gun, I decided to buy a gun safe as well since my home was broken into. Over all, I've been pretty happy with the gun. I did buy two hundred rounds (TMJ 230 grains) and two 20 round boxes of home defense (HP 230 grain). I also purchased a extra magazine. This gun came with two 13rd magazines, but I do plan on going to the range, so I didn't want to be spending time loading magazines when I could be shooting the weapon.
Gander Mountain Liberty Revere 22-Capacity Gun Safe :
As for the gun safe, its not the best that money can buy, I was looking for a safe encase our home got broken into again, I would still be in position of my firearm and my personal belongings. Plus it weighs 440lbs and has a fire rating. I didn't buy it for the fire rating just for security of my personal property.
I will say this base on my opinion and from the feel of the gun since I didn't shot the gun before purchasing it. I do have experience shooting the .45, but not the .40. So, I decided to stick with the .45auto cause of the my experience in the service dealing with them. I also picked the Springfield Armory pistol over the Sig Sauer pistol cause of the trigger pull. As soon as I fired this Springfield Armory pistol at home, I knew I made the right decision. You can go ahead and tear me a new one, but that's how it went down when buying this firearm and I feel good about it.
