No...open carry is legal in many states, but not all. In some states (Pennsylvania, for example) open carry is a right.
Now, carrying long arms (rifles and shotguns) can get you in trouble with the Fish and Game wardens.

Those pesky fish and game wardens....

I'd like to thank each and everyone of you guys for your comments. I spent the last several days burning brain cells by surfacing the net. And it occurred to me the answer that I was after has already been posted over at TBN . So, I decided to put the tire where the thread meets the pavement so to speak. I was going to order the first gun through Buds Gun Shop but remembered that most posted about hands-on (feel). Even thou the prices at Buds Gun Shop is very appealing. I was not ready to lay some cash down cause I didn't have the option of being able to have the gun put in my hand, plus time is a factor as well. I will say this, my next purchase will be from BGS cause I will have time to go to places to see and feel the weapons and then I can go back home and purchase the gun from BGS.

Ok, went to several gun shops and my experience was, most were trying to sell me a weapon based on there experience. I told all of them what I wanted from this gun (ie: comfort, caliber, barrel length, reliability, ammo cost and so forth, ~all these came from this thread~). Blah, Blah, Blah is about all I heard and made up my mind to go to one last gun shop before returning from empty handed. Upon walking through the front doors, The belligerent Marine in me, had an off the wall idea off asking about a M198 howitzer http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f4/155fire.jpg since nobody had one and probably didn't have any experience with or had even been around one of them (0811 was not my MOS). Well, I explained what I wanted and this is his response, he told me to walk around and pick out the gun I wanted and he'd sell me what I wanted and that I'd get what I wanted cause I'd be the one picking it out, not some salesman trying to sell me one based on there experience or there per take. I told him no thanks, I'll look else were for my howitzer and walked out.

The next day I decided to go to the most expensive place around here. Wait for it, if you haven't guessed yet, Gander Mountain. Let me say this, these folks were really down to earth people. And the person I dealt with was really a good guy. I ended up buying a Springfield Armory XD Service Model .45acp.

Gander Mountain Springfield XD 45 Service Handgun :

After doing the paperwork for the gun, I decided to buy a gun safe as well since my home was broken into. Over all, I've been pretty happy with the gun. I did buy two hundred rounds (TMJ 230 grains) and two 20 round boxes of home defense (HP 230 grain). I also purchased a extra magazine. This gun came with two 13rd magazines, but I do plan on going to the range, so I didn't want to be spending time loading magazines when I could be shooting the weapon.

Gander Mountain Liberty Revere 22-Capacity Gun Safe :

As for the gun safe, its not the best that money can buy, I was looking for a safe encase our home got broken into again, I would still be in position of my firearm and my personal belongings. Plus it weighs 440lbs and has a fire rating. I didn't buy it for the fire rating just for security of my personal property.

I will say this base on my opinion and from the feel of the gun since I didn't shot the gun before purchasing it. I do have experience shooting the .45, but not the .40. So, I decided to stick with the .45auto cause of the my experience in the service dealing with them. I also picked the Springfield Armory pistol over the Sig Sauer pistol cause of the trigger pull. As soon as I fired this Springfield Armory pistol at home, I knew I made the right decision. You can go ahead and tear me a new one, but that's how it went down when buying this firearm and I feel good about it. :cool2:

I have been drooling for one of those myself. I am a big 1911 fan but one of those would be welcome in my home. Have seen a lot of very positive reviews on it including one I believe in American Rifleman.

Aint nothing wrong with an XD.. I have shot several friend's XD's . Not the same as owning one, but I liked what I saw for the few magazines I put thru them. As stated, you got the right one for you, and that is what counts.

I am sorry to hear that. If you window shop locally then order from Buds, eventually your local shop won't be around any more.

If you find a good shop that has what you want and provides good customer service, please patronize them and keep them in business!

Yes, I've ordered a couple of guns from Bud's. Good internet service. But the guns were NOT available locally .

If I am going to find a gun I like at a local store and they give me the opportunity to "touch and fondle" it and that is what makes me want to buy it, then they deserve to be backed up with my money. I would like them to stay in business and there is only one way that's going to happen.

Springfield generally makes good guns and I hear good things about the XD.

I indeed gave them a chance. That's why I went to there shop first (locally). They told me all about there experiences with certain auto's and a few tried to sell me a revolver which I didn't want. What it boil's down to, they tried to sell me what they wanted, not what I wanted. So, in the end, they last a sale, period (no icing on the cake). I've always bought local if it was sold local. If not, I went to the next town down the road which is about 25 miles. My house was built from all the local stores in my town, I bought my truck from Ford. I have always been a GM man. My local GM/Chevy/Pontiac dealership went belly up (my wife car came from this dealership), so I jumped boat and bought from my local Ford dealership. I could have went to the next town to buy a Gm vehicle, but I decided if there was a warranty issue, I wanted to deal with it on my own time. My atv, motorcycle, zero turn mower and my tractor were all bought from local dealer's. So, I get were your come from. But, the gun shop's that are local, they didn't shot straight with me (so they lost a sale).

Plus, I was on a time line so to speak. I "NEEDED" another firearm. Ever been robbed before? If you have, you will understand were/from what I'm coming from. That's all I will say about that.

Does it bother me that I didn't buy from a local shop (a little)? I like to support my local economy. Hope you understand were I'm coming from.

I like to also clarify one thing. My comment about ordering from Buds Gun Shop first was cause I'm still having to deal with the break in (police, insurance and making my home a safe place again until the repair's can be made). I'm on a time table here actually. Plus I'm dealing with my wife emotions. She took the biggest hit. She lost $7800 in jewelry alone along with her welding band (she works at the hospital as to why she doesn't/didn't wear it). The thief destroyed my back door. He kicked the back door so many times, he busted the studs in the wall. The french doors, studs in the wall, drywall, framing for the door, paint and trim plus labor is a little over $6000 dollars. So, hopefully you guys will understand were I coming from about buying from Buds Gun Shop and being on a time table.

Okay, I understand. I did say "and provides good customer service" ;-)

If you find a good shop that has what you want and provides good customer service, please patronize them and keep them in business!
