JD4110 no start. Looked at the battery and + side was very corroded. Cleaned it up and the cable is eaten thru. I removed the cable and battery. I had to cut the cable to get it thru the small hole it goes thru right next to the battery.
Questions:
What size/type of battery should I replace it with?
How can I get the cable thru that small hole? Do I have to remove some other parts or is there an easier way.

Thanks

replace it with an Optima Group 51 you dont need the R version because you can reverse it on your machine...I have one installed in my 4100....no more corrosion ever again

Thanks, but I don't understand the reversing it part.

Where can you get them?

...but there's no reason not to get the R version of the Optima 51 series. It's the one made for the 4110's configuration.
Remy Batteries is where I ordered mine. They show out of stock right now. It's worth a call to find out when it would ship. Heres another more expensive source: 1st Optima Batteries

I don't know if the 4110 hood and headlights are set up differently than my 4100 but if they aren't and you opt for the D51R, the headlight housing will not clear the terminals. I sent the D51R back to Remy and they sent me a D51 and I just turned it around so the terminals were towards the radiator. BTW, Remy sent me the D51 immediately after I told them of my mistake before I even sent the D51R back. Nice people to deal with and the price was nice as well!

Bottom line: get the Optima. Money well spent, IMO.

I have the 51R in my 4110. It's the right model--just drop it in.

Cant sAY ABOUT THE 4110 BUT JUST TODAY i REPLACED THE BATTERY IN MY 4410 WITH THE 51R Sorry cap lock, The positive cable is on the right side facing the tractor. You could not use a 51, the cables are just long enough. My plate was starting to corrode , the paint is missing in spots no major rust. This site saved me a lot of headache by warning me of this problem. The hold down on the battery right side was corroded off. And the bolt fozen. As soon as the weather gets dryer I will paint the plate. How do you hold down the 51R. I may have to fab some custom clamps. After 2 winters tractor was 2 years old April , I will complain to my dealer.

I overtightened the thermoplastic crossbar on my clamp and broke it. Mine is now a custom clam /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I will try and post a picture tomorrow. When i got my group 51 battery it was a while ago and at the time the "R" option wasnt out (reverse terminal option), it fit perfect in my 4100.

Original battery hold down worked excellent, the positive terminal is nearest the radiator on the right hand side when you are in front of the tractor....maybe that helps

My tractor came home from the dealer last week with a sealed Interstate battery in it. It was the second time in two months it had been in for the "leaking battery" problem, first with the original battery then with the Deere LVAXXXXX replacement.
It's also interesting that since I've had the battery problems now Deere's website lists a "dry charged" replacement battery instead of the LVAXXXXX that it did a couple of months ago.
