4110 parking brake \'false positive\'

I'll try to describe this as best I can...when I engage the parking brake - engine running, hst in neutral - the brake lever feels like it 'clicks' into the locked position; there's an audible and tactile feel to it. After several cases of hearing the ominous 'click' of it popping out of the lock position I've found that I have to lift the parking lever past the first 'click' into a second 'click' position. It takes a fairly good pull to reach this 2nd position, I'm afraid of snapping the plastic lever. Obviously, this is very disturbing because I'm not always on level ground and don't always have ground-engaging attachments to help keep the tractor in place - it's a little un-nerving to see the machine - engine still running - slowly rolling across the yard.

Any other 4110 owners experience this? Any quick fix or adjustment you know of? It's definitely going back to the dealer but wondering if there's anything I can do today.

Thanks much, -Norm

Something similar: I can "feel" the false click you describe. I simply press more firmly on the brake pedal. If there is a slope at all, it takas quite a bit of foot pressure. This seems to ease the effort required to seat the brake catch handle. I think phe brake pedal can take quite a bit more stress than thd plastic brake catch-handle-thingy. Bottom line: I am really caqtious about relying on the brake. I never work around the tractor parked vertically or `skew on any incline.

Just pull the handle to the first click, then stomp the brake pedal. Pulling harder on the handle won't really improve the hold of the brake. It is the pressure on the brake pedal that determines the amount of braking. I don't think it is an issue with your machine. I had to chase my tractor down and jump on it the very first day it was home. There was nothing between it and a dry creek except a couple pebbles. It would have been a disaster, since the papers weren't even complete. I convinced the dealer to let me have the tractor and a couple implements before everything was in. It was nice of them to do it, but what if I had accidentally destroyed the tractor while it was still technically theirs? Anyway, I learned the trick on the parking brake and remember the run across the yard for my new baby every time I engage it.

Re: 4110 parking brake \'false positive\'

Gotcha. If I jump on the brake pedal the brake lever pops nicely into park without any 'false positive'. If I use wimpy pressure (or am rushed and not paying attention) then I get the 'false positive'. Guess it's more of a case of operator error than anything but I really don't recall this when I first started to use the machine....maybe I was more cautious and careful then.

Thanks again, -Norm

Re: 4110 parking brake \'false positive\'

Your 4110 (and probably 2210s) are probably the same as my 4010 re the parking brake and cruise control lock (not on 2210s). I don't really know what you're talking about. I push on the brake and then pull up the parking lever and lift off the brake. If I'm uncoordinated and lift off the lever first, the brake pops back up. Same for cruise control.
