@windyacres - No problem. This might help me put it back together too.

Step 19: remove hoses from diesel tank

Step 20: disconnect wiring on right hand side (facing forward)above tank . cut all cable ties to release wiring harnes from tank across top and down left side. Slip harness out of permanent sheet metal holder, low on left side.

Step 21: remove all fasteners from tank (2 near top on each side and 4 across bottom. The ones near top on sides have metal bushing and rubber washer under them. The rubber stays with tank ok, but the bushings need to be captured. 13mm socket and ratchet

Step 21: slide tank down and slightly forward until top corners clear brackets then lift out.

Step 22: remove 2x2 angle that supported bottom of tank. 13mm socket and ratchet

Rockshaft assembly looks good. Both the gear on the upper shaft and the one on the PTO shaft below it are shot. I found plenty of metal filings in the bottom. Looks like some linkage components inside the transmision slipped out of adjustment where only a setscrew holds it. The shifting fork doesn't seem to move the gear all the way into the detent in the guide shaft. The operator lever hits the sheet metal before it can pull into position all they way.

Well only being held by a set screw doesnt exactly sound like a very good setup. Wonder how many other tractors have had this problem, kinda sounds like if that set screw is not very well tighten at the factory this would happen? Well how big of a pain is it going to be for you to get the two gears out? Can you pull both out from the top like that. I am thinking you have to split it at this point, could be wrong I have never had a mahindra apart?

Step 23: cover with rockshaft assembly off.

Step 24. loosen bolt (setscew) on PTO shifting linkage and pull that linkage off the shaft

Step 25: loosen bolt on shift fork guid bar and drive the bar backward out of transmission housing

Step 26: remove bolts from retaining plate around pto shaft at rear of tractor. pull the plate off. pull out the seall under it.

Step 27: remove snap ring that is exposed now that you have removed the seal. pull / drive shaft rearward out of tractor. rear bearing comes out easily. Front bearing can be tapped forward off shaft after it is dislodged from its socket .

Step 28: Remove fixed drawbar . this exposes the rear end of the drive shaft.
Tap the drive shaft out of the back of the tractor.

Dissasembly is complete!!!!!

I could not have done this without the parts diagrams on this site:

Marcel,
What you have done here to help others, with this problem is unmeasureable. I as a dealer, have not even had to deal with this problem before, and what you have posted is a great help to me and I know this is also very helpful to Windyacres as I am his dealer and I didn't have the hands on experience which you have supplied. Hats off to you!

drive shaft assembly went pretty well. Big bearing went on easy, but I needed to get to a press to install the small one. The assembly slid in prtty easy, I supported the mating shaft with a nylon sling while lining them up. after the shaft was in place, I tapped the seal /cover in and bolted on the drawbar.
