Hi all

Just reading that operators manual and came across the note on warm up. They suggest cold starts above 50 F; you should let engine warm up 5- 10 min. Start up at 50 F to 32 F calls for 10 - 20 min. and more for colder. If it's 50 - 60 I'll give it a min. or two and I'm off at an easy pace for a little while. I guess now I'll warm up at any temp.

Funny about that manual, there's some interesting stuff for a skinny book.

Cheers....Coffeeman

Coffeeman,

Perhaps we're the only two still on the Mahindra forum, eh?

Anyway, when I start my 3510, I start it at a hair above low idle speed and wait for the knocking to clear, then up the RPMS a little.

Lift the FEL and cycle ALL the hydraulics (lift arms, roll bucket out and back, etc).

When it feels good, I go easy the first bit, just as you state.

Now, I do start it and let it run to warm up while connecting implements, hooking trailer, saftey check, etc.

I do think I remember reading that you shouldn't idle it too long at low rpms, something about insufficient oil circulation or diesel lubing...I don't remember exactly, perhaps someone knows ?

Now I do start any PTO instrument at the absolute lowest speed and watch as it starts up, gradually going faster and watching everything to make sure it's okay and to get things lubed and moving properly. That's all while it's in the air and before any use.

I've had my share of wild PTO shafts flying off and around in my days... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

My warm up on my 2810 is just a minute or so, not much more unless it's real cold out. I don't hit pto speed right away but I'll be at 1500-1800 rpms soon after starting. I've changed to Rotella 5-40w synthetic and plan on using it year round. I do wonder if switching to a synthetic hydro fluid, such as Kubota super UDT, might be a good idea on my HST. Especially for winter use.

Under fuel saving tips , "Do not run engine without load for more than 2 minutes. It is better to stop Engine rather than run it idle"

Under "DO'S AND DONT'S" it says; "DON'T - Allow the Engine to run idle for a long period."

I get a kick out of some of the writing. In this case Mahindra manual has the word Engine starting with the e capitalized. I guess something in translation.

Coffee,
I start mine and after 1 minute I turn on the pto shaft, which turns all those gears inside and makes the oil thinner a lot quicker. I also do it with all the yanmars too.
I dont rev them up, I just let it idle with the shaft turning after 1 minute of warm up.
It works for me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
