Well, he got the price down to $23,500, but he took off my extras and substituted a 400x loader. We'll see what the rest of the month holds.

I don't have a good idea of how this tractor fits your current needs or what you might do with the tractor in the future --- but the $500 you save on the 400x vs the 400cx loader would not be a place I'd shave money....
As well, what were the added features that were dropped? Front and rear lights? 3rd SCV? Adjustable draft links?
Those few features, IMO can make a real difference in how easy it is to use your tractor and can make a big difference if you should ever resell it.

I don't know where you are in the Hill Country and how much research you've done so far, so for what it's worth:
I bought mine from the dealer down in Hockley; I even drove 8 hrs to pick it up, they still beat everyone around here by a little over $1000.

how is he "trying to fool" you? he asked a price, you are thinking about it, that's the way a free market works. Buy it or don't. Sounds like you are making a smart move by shopping around, but he's not trying to "fool" you, he's trying to sell you something!!! Be a smart buyer.

I agree, I was just being a little dramatic with my subject. I've been shopping and reading TBN for about a year and a half, so I figure I've got a pretty good handle on what I want to pay.
I just hate the back and forth pricing game. I want a salesman that will give me his best price, take it or leave it. A price where he can make a living and I can feel like I got what I want at a price I can make work.
It just bugs me to have to go back and forth.

Make a list: "Here's exactly what I want - I want your best price as I'm ready to buy today."
It seems that (in reading this thread) you're not 100% sure of what you want so, in that case, there will be some back-and-forth as you explore various options.
