Getting ready for 5-8 inches of snow.
Started PT up and positioned it to be ready to pull out of the garage, no problem. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Checked to make sure the lights were working correctly and the motor died. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Now I cannot restart the motor. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I am now in a panic, What do I need to check?
Any Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure you didn't hit the pto toggle by mistake? I've done it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I don't think so.
If I did what is the result? What do I need to do to correct the problem?

Just turn it to the OFF position.

I learned this the hard way after running out of gas while brushhogging. Hiked to the house, got gas, hiked back, filled the PT.... then no start! Hiked back and forth a couple of times until the dim bulb above my head started to glow.

So far no luck /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Flipped the switces, no luck.
Checked the wiring on the lights and found one with insulation rubbed through to the conductors. This probably caused a short. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Could this have shorted out the switch? Checked to see if there are any fuses in the circuit other than to the fan, can't see any on the schematic or see one on the machine.
Any possibilities of operating the PT without the switch?
Can the switch be bypassed/jumpered to run the PT?
Open to all suggestions??????

I have a four year old 422 and it has an inline main fuse located near the starter. Flip both the light switch and PTO switch off and check this fuse. With the light switch off the worn insulation should not impact the fuse unless you flip the light switch on before repairing the insulation.

Probably that fuse, but I have had both fuse holders fail. The one on the starter is the one you need to check.

I don't know what engine you have, but most of the ign switches are similar. Take the switch out and see if you have 12 volts at the batt terminal. If so, turn the switch on and see if you have 12 volts at the ign terminal. If so, you can then jump across the batt terminal, and the start terminal to start. I have replaced the ignition switch 2 times. I have since removed the switch and installed some automotive switches. It now works right.

Found the problem. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifThe inline fuse to the engine was blown. Never knew it was there until today. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Thanks for the input gents. This site is probably the best manual ever written.
Another item for the emergency toolkit. 30amp buss fuse.
