I'll get mine setup this week and find out. I think I saw one on another tractor and it looked like it was close to the end of the tube when it was level. I figured I could tap the end of the rod and extend it for my purposes if necessary.
Gary, mine is the same way. When the bucket is level, the rod is level with the tube. When the 4in1 is open, the bucket is level when the rod sticks out to the yellow line. I just assumed this was normal, but I guess all dealers do things differently....
I'm sure I didn't miss half a foot of rod so mine must've been cut off from OEM length. Truth be told, I can't quite imagine why I'd need it to stick up half a foot when it's level even if I painted a line at the level mark or even painted the top six inches completely.
I went out and looked at mine. It's more like 4 inches, not 6, but it still sounds like yours is cut off. Whether you'd miss the extra length or not is another story.
If I remember correctly to the pre delivery instructions for the bucket level indicator when the bucket is level with the ground the rod should be flush with the end of the bucket level indicator. Maybe the dealer never cut your rod off to proper length? I cut mine so it does not stick way out when level.
You know, I like my dealer, but I think that he is a lot like some other dealers. He doesn't read the provided literature on set up the way he should. That is why there is so many different set-ups.
I received my level indicator and installed it this weekend for use. It only takes about 15 minutes, if that. I added a washer at the top bracket against the rubber washer provided to give a better bearing surface to slide around, and I added a washer at the bottom where the rod connects with the cotter pin. I also put a finger swipe of grease at the movement points for good measure.
The rod extends 6 inches above the tube when the bucket is level. The instructions do no say to cut the rod flush.
I marked mine for level and for 45 degrees down. The distance between level and 45 is close to 6 inches. I then made a mark every inch up the tube to provide a reference that I can see.
I am more consistent and efficient with the blade for grading now since I can see exactly where the bucket sits.
