Good to hear it's held up so well. I push mine as well. I always figure there's wiggle room in the specs so that they can err on the side of safety. I recall when I bought mine that the Dealer, who is a old Deere shop, said not only to compare specs but try the tractor. He got into comparison's with the Orange brand and claimed that Deere specs were not "overstated" and that their hydraulics were simply better. I can't prove that and sure would't want to start a Green/Orange challenge on the issue - with that being said I sure wish someone - Consumer Reports, or some such engineering outfit would begin comparative testing of CUT's. It would be really helpful and clarifying to cut through the nonsense and just see how all the models compare, both to the competition and to their own listed specs.

Actually they do this for the larger tractors. But in the cut and below range nobody has done this. It would be very helpful to see this done.

I believe I've seen some of that - Was it a Maryland or University of Maryland website?

Funny thing is brand loyalists will refute test results anyway. I used to be involved with a motorcycle board very similar to this - I like the crowd in here a lot better!

We had brand specific, even model specific discussion groups - well don't you know several of the more widely distributed magazines did comparison tests of the mid-size cruisers - our model included. It did aweful in the comparison tests, and was lower mid-pack overall everytime. Well you should have heard the backlash on the discussion.. "Rigged Results", and all sorts of claims basically saying the testers just don't get it. So I guess staring at plain hard facts doesn't always sway some folks.

With the exception of one brand on this board, I've found most owners and want to be owners are pretty open to the other choices out there. Even in my case, if Bota had made a more aggressive play for my business I could easily be driving Orange today... Same with Kioti - better dealer network may have swayed me to them.

I think there are a lot of good tractors out there - they are generally all exceptional tools and worth their price. I can't believe what I've gotten done with mine already - and thats with an inexperienced pilot on board. It would just make deciding and purchasing easier to have facts that are all based on the same standards and testing methods.

Well, I sure remember when I paid attention to comparison testing on PCs done by the magazines. They guys with the biggest, glossiest pull out ads were the winners!! Imagine!

Even the so called unbiased testers can get pretty swayed.

But I think it woulld be a pretty good idea, too. Future project for tbn'ers

Mike - have you ever checked out www.tomshardware.com?

I was also impressed by how well several of the online magazines have reviewed the newest AMD processor systems. They've compared, and generally exceeded the fastest Intel units... at least they did last week - this is an ever changing bar.

Rocky,
It was the handle that you must rotate to turn.
I don't have my manual handy to look at it.
What broke on mine was a tiny weld but since
it was a new tractor I figured JD should give me a new
one. I agree with the sitting down part when it comes
to operate it. Problem is.. if my 14 year old had been
using the tractor (He's 5'6" and I'm 6'2") I have to
squeeze in to sit down.
