I'm having a similar problem with my 4300. When I'm in the 3rd speed range I lose power and speed as i press down on forward pedal causing engine to almost die. Other 2 speed ranges work ok. I'm still troubleshooting.

Can someone tell me about the potentiometer and where it is located????

The 4300 did not have any electronics on the hydro. everything is mechanical. It sounds as if you have a fuel problem unless you are overloading engine. What are you doing when you lose power in third range? This range is primarily a transport speed. If you are trying to cut grass or pull a load, you should probably be in second or first range.

Sam, what you describe sounds almost normal. If I turn off LoadMatch on the 4310, I can bog down the engine in 'C' with the pedal mashed down.

Of course, you realize that the harder that you press the pedal, the higher the gear, which causes more engine loading. It isn't a gas pedal, but it sure is easy to 'forget' and treat it like one.

Thanks for your comments. I’m fully aware about 3rd range being for transport. I always operate in 1st(low) range when using implements. This problem I'm having occurred right after I cleaned my 4300 inside and out with water and some mild soap.

I'm leaning toward a rear end brake problem. If I tap the brake levers back a little under the rear end the tractor runs normal for about 50 yards. Then I start losing rpms and it feels like something (brakes) slowly starts holding the tractor back as I start losing power dramatically. The rpm gage takes a deep dive. When I let off the pedal rpms rapidly build back up but same thing happens when I press hydro pedal again. Reverse seems to work normal in all ranges.

This happens even going down a steep hill on a paved road. This is totally not normal for this tractor, as I have used it numerous times. I'm at a loss for the cause of this problem.
