4310 4wd ehydro 420 loader asof 4/2/02
I have my tilt meter and have a fairly good sloop to my yard. I have already moved my turfs to the wide position in the back not the front. What is the greatest tilt I can safely operate at? Is putting the fronts at the wider stance going to help much? Should I get wheel weights? Does the 420 loader make the tractor have a higher center of gravity?

I have a 4400 with a tiltmeter and I mow the back of my dam side to side, and have seen the meter at over 25. Anything over 20 and I am puckered, but I mow very slow at these steeper angles. The FEL has never been off my tractor. When mowing I keep the bucket low. There are other threads on this where everyone agrees that up to 15 is safe, but caution about dropping a wheel into a depression. My biggest concern is that I will get too comfortable at steep angles and loose my caution. My front wheels are at there max. width, the rears where not turned. I do have all tires filled with water and never lift the mower or bucket when on a steep incline. Hope this helps.

Twanger,

If you have something heavy for the 3pt hitch....I'd use it too and keep it low. When I mow the banks of our pond (lengthwise) I add my roughly 350lb brushhog and it really helps to keep everything grounded. I've tried it briefly without the loader and the hog and it is a scary propositon. Also, if you happen to have some loose material around (dirt), take a scoop. That'll help as well.

Wear your seatbelt too!

Thanks guys. It looks like I need to get wheel weights or fill the tires. I will also flip the front tires out.
