My fathers 4110 is as smooth as possible with the PTO. He runs a tiller, MMM, and a snowblower.

And it's an electric operated ?.

Maybe there is a way to 'soften' the blow.

I would assume since its a little yellow knob you pull on the dash.

My 3720 is also smooth on and off. I can take a video if needed. The 4110 is a 2003 or 2004.

h more I think about this the more I want to know. I have a 445 that you have to have the thing full throttle to turn on the 60 inch mowing deck. The pto kicks in so hard that it almost stalls the tractor. Its not easy, it kind of chuggs to get going. My father can turn on his deck at 1200 rpms and it engages smooth, or at full throttle. It would be nice for the 445 to do the same, seems like it would be easier on the implements and the tractor.

Maybe I'm missing sumpin' here...

My older JD660 tiller has "swallowed" some major roots, stump chunks and rocks. When it jams - I slam that yellow knob down! The pto stops; right now. When I'm runnin' the mower or whatever pto implement -- post hole digger -- and they can "jam"... the implement stops -- when I hit the yellow knob.

And most definitely, under normal operation; there's never a "bang" when I "disengage" the pto by pushing the yellow knob down (not slam).

I guess that I'd be visitin' with my local JD shop guys if my 4410 "banged" everytime I used the pto.

The electric PTO clutches when introduced into the L&G industry to help control the safety switches also meant they needed larger belts to take the load from the snap of them.
Some compacts use hydraulic wet clutches like the bigger farm tractors. Far more reliable then the electric PTO systems and they do ease the machines in a bit easier then the electric PTO clutches.

Ok, art. My JD300R lawn tractor has an electric clutch to engage the pto. My JD110 has and electric switch to engage the hydraulic clutch for the pto.

I believe the JD4410 has a very similar pto engagement system as my 110.

The 300R pto engages alot more "robustly" (not exactly a bang) than the 110.

My 2320 doesn't bang, but it does kick in pretty quick. I grew up with manual PTO wet clutch engagement (Oliver 77, Oliver 770) and they were butter smooth, slowly start heavy flywheel items like balers and hammer mills and never effected shifting.

I do wish I could add a second to the engagement to ease things up a touch.

I didn't mean bang literally. Although when you try to tell a heavy RC to stop instantly, it tends to bang, as in the sound bang.

Maybe 'instant' would've been a better choice.
