I have a 445 that won't start. pull plugs and ground to side of head I get good spark. I've sprayed starting fluid in spark plug hole put plugs back but won't even pop.I can here the full pump run also can see fuel in throttle body. I pulled valve covers and valve train looks ok, push rods and valves look to move correct. Thanks HarMist

I'd not be using starting fluid, but would instead use some gas to test it.

What was leading up to the "no start" problem? Some history of things happening, or not happening, would help.

Sounds like a fuel problem... Did it run out? and then not start? or what happened....

May be as simple as loosening the plug in the carb.. to let fuel get pumped in there.

Tractor always started good. Last time working in the yard it started hard,I shut it off after about a hour and it would not start again ,no pop at all.It is a 1998 model but has the steel cam, not sure how many hours on it, hour meter broke at agout 500. It is fuel injected with electronic ignition. I have not pulled fuel line to check for fuel. It also smokes a little bit.

Found this owner's manual info on line.
I know you said you have spark. Could the timing of the ignition be off. Not certain what engine you have but shearing of flywheel key can change timing.
If you are going to use starting fluid spray it into the intake otherwise spraying into cylinders through injectors will not leave enough vapor to fire. On cylinders with a valve open the ether will just flow out.

If Engine Will Not Start
Check:

· Brake not pushed down.

· PTO switch in on position.

· Upper (switch) fuse blown.

· Fuel pump fuse blown.

· Fuel shut-off valve closed.

· Improper fuel.

· Dirty or faulty injectors, see your John Deere dealer

· Plugged fuel filter.

This link will provide useful discussions on your engine particularly a vacuum hose that can crack and cause all sorts of problems.

Make sure the battery is good. I know that sound obvious but that turned out to be part of my problem. Then check fuel pressure. There is a 2" piece of fuel line that connects the pump to the line in the tank. They get cracked and you loose pressure. New battery and $1.79 for a foot of fuel line. Good as new.

The camshaft gear is bad. They have plastic teeth. Pull cover and install new cam. It has gone out of time
