you should be able to get the 85 for $330? I bought a rossi 357 at academy for $290. its a 6shot 3" barrel, basically a k frame.

Will, I DON'T speak to anyone' else's experience. The Judge that I owned shot a donut pattern when shooting shot shells. Sometimes fairly symmetrical other times it was heavy left of center. Other's experience certainly may be different. The OP asked about individual experiences I shared my first hand experience with owning the Judge 45/410 w 3" barrel.

I still believe the Judge 45/410 to be a compromise on both. I was absolutely NOT satisfied.

Others may experience something different.

Anyone ever hear of 'Super Comanche' .45/.410 single-shot? I've had mine for quite some time, never impressed anyone 'til friends got 'Judges'. Odd features include narrow grooves vs traditional narrow lands in the bore, and a wad-spin stopper that interchanges with a barrel thread protector for use with .45LC loads. The .410s do kick quite a bit more,.

Bobby's Judge shot donut-like patterns with some .410 loads at 7 paces or so. I get similar patterns with the same stuff at 20 yds that he gets at 5 or so. Shooting .45s with the wad-stopper would NOT be a good idea, perhaps a hindrance to the S-C's popularity, but it IS a single-shot. btw: One nice thing about the S-C is that its slim profile fits the same holsters as my DA Taurus 9-shot and 6-shot SA Heritage Rough Rider .22s. Carries nice that way 'out back' & rarely needs follow-up shots. :)

btw: I've always felt the diff between short & long rifled barrel patterns is that the wad sort of skids down the rifling & doesn't grab it well enough to get the spin going in 2" or so. Longer tubes could be giving wads a chance to get a better grip on the rifling, give them more spin, and produce the donut pattern now & then. (Not positive, just MHO.) Suppose we could've compared the S-C without the wad-stopper to Bobby's Taurus, but he didn't like the pattens with any ammo & went back to a semi-auto 'nine'. That said .45LC for PD makes far more sense to me than bird shot or those disc-shot combo loads that lack velocity, energy, & IMO penetration. :confused3:

I Googled the Super Comanche to show you guys (& gals) to find them offered all over, but out of stock most places that do.

All that said, Bond Arms' 'Snake Slayer' would seem to be the next best thing to a .410 revo for rattlers, etc. Does 'Mission-Specific' sound as sexy as 'Tactical' to anyone?

I've Had a thought (Yes It hurt), since starting this thread.
About 30 years ago I gave my brother in law a kit to build a pepper box revolver. About $25 in those days , Now around a $100. Going to see if he still has the gun or the kit.

May be worthless, but at least it would be fun to play with.

yep.

and the '3 to finish'

that sounds worded badly. very badly.

3 to stop the threat.

ther eshould be no 'finishing off'.

once a threat is stopped. you stop shooting.

Let me be a bit more clear. Shot one and two are to the face. That SHOULD stop any threat. If they keep coming, your **** right I'm using the other three to finish...

Well, you're probably going to get flamed for that..... The largest target is the body and that's what you should go for. Better chance of hitting something.
