With electrical conduit, you use a different type of glue on the joints then with PVC or CPVC. This glue is clear, but doesn't use primer. It's not designed to hold high water pressure, or even any water pressure. The glue just has to be strong enough to keep out the water from getting in under normal, gravity conditions.
Use the right glue, and it won't harm the wire casings.
I can lay out the wire and slide the pipe over it fairly easily. It's time consuming, but when it's done, it's a simple matter of putting it in the trench and moving on. With pulling wire, it's a task of how much effort to pull it and what to use to pull it. I've done both, and while working by myself, I always slide the pipe over the wire. It's just allot easier in my opinion.
