I have 40 acres of ranch land in Arizona that is mostly pinyon pine and cedar trees. There is a difference of about 70 feet in elevation from the low point to the high point. There is a lot of rock on the land. I will be clearing out trees, digging water lines digging cistrins, and grading the house site and driveways. The price I was quoted for the tractors with backhoe and FEL are within about $700.00 of each other. I am trying to figure out which is the best tractor for the job. I feel the 4500 being heavier with greater lift capacity would be the better machine. Any opinions? The 4500 appears to be a older introduction machine then the 4110. Does anyone know the productions dates?

Thanks
Roy

I would say for your land the 4500 would be the tractor of choice here. The 4110 is made by a company called TYM and sold by Mahindra in the states under the Mahindra name (although they can be found in the states under TYM). The 4500 is actually made by Mahindra (dealers correct me if I am wronge here) and is much more of a utility type tractor. The weight would be the deciding factor for me. However, the 4110 does have a 12x12 trans. and those extra four gears are really nice. Drive both and then decide which one fits your needs best.

With prices that close is the 4500 a 2wd model? For your land description and needs I think 4wd would be a really important. I am assuming a FEL for a lot of your listed work. FOr that many acres I would bite the bullet and go for the 4530 if the budget allows. That would get you a bigger, heavier 4wd tractor with a heavier loader. IF that is out of the question the heavier 4500 2wd might be the better option. I can't remember how the 112 and 260 loaders compare spec wise. Good Luck! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have seldom heard anyone complain about having too big of a tractor. And with what you are planning, I would get the bigger of the two. Even if the 4110 would do the job, the 4500 will do it easier with less stress. I have heard of people getting one tractor over another because one is "being discontinued". So what? Every model out there will be discontinued some day, and probably way before the one I have is worn out. Parts will still be made to support the "installed customer base". I say get the bigger one. It's like wire, its easier to make it shorter than it is to make it longer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a 4530 with FEL and I can tell you right now that you arent going to clear many trees with it. Sure you can move the smaller stuff. but this thing isnt going to move anything over 4" or so. You would be better off using a chainsaw and moving trees like that or hiring a dozer to giter done. I'm in the same boat with 40 heavily wooded acres, hills etc in EastTx. Can't beat the 4x4 though most of the time I dont use/need it. Sure is handy tho. I love the tractor and it works fine for me.

I've been pretty impressed by my 4110's power to weight ratio, it is pretty strong for its size. I've pushed out a number of trees up to about three inches or so.

4" and larger trees, especially ones with hefty root systems are gonna be something you aren't going to want to tackle on a huge scale with a tractor anyway, that isn't what they are made for.

is a 4500 available anymore?

The 4500 was replaced by the 4530 which is a newer style flat platform.
Mahindra may still have the 4500 available untill stock is gone.
