About one month ago I posted a question about the large frame 4000 series John Deeres. My question was that my dealer was trying to convince me of the benefits of a large frame machine, and said that he was getting a shipment of 4000 series machines in soon. Well, it happened. He called today and said a 4520 had arrived with ehydro and R4 tires. Pricing was not discussed. I currently have the 3720, with which I am extremely pleased. I have no complaints about my current machine. About 100 hours so far, and doing fine. My main questions are: is even looking at such a machine even worth doing? Second, with regard to power, is the 4520 as potent as my 3720, especially on the hills and grades we have here? Third, what am I thinking, the 3720 machine is even more than I need (but not necessarily more than I want)? Finally, would there be much difference in performance between a 4520 and a 4720? I realize five horsepower, but my only PTO driven attachment is a 72" RFM which either machine would easily power. As far as box blading, etc. would that small amount of power be noticable, and would the large frame machine do notably better than my current hoss? On caveat, my dealer is a long drive from here, so I try not to demo something unless I am REALLY sure I want it-- which I am not at this point; if I do decide to do something I may get a better price on the 4520 because it is on the lot v. waiting or having him locate a 4720 if I decide I do want a large frame. I suppose my biggest concern is trading a machine I like for one that looks good on paper, but with which I have limited personal experience. There is nothing that my 3720 will not do that I need it to, but it is always nice to look. Thanks for the advice.
