Mahindra 2555 HST
Hi everyone. I'm still researching my tractor purchase. I'm favoring Mahindra. I've tried the 1538, 2538, 2540, 2555, 3540 and 4540. Of those I think only the 2555 and 4540 are real condenders for me. I know...not apples to apples. The 4540 appeals on a viseral level. It's a beast! Lower priced tractor also means more implements. :) I know that engine has a ton of torque but only 31 HP at the PTO.

I'm looking at using a finish mower for about 11 acres of mowing. It is pasture and I want a better cut than a rotary cutter would give. I do intend to mow regularly. With R4s the 4540 is almost 7 feet wide. Could I use a 7 foot finish mower on it? Should I use a 6 foot and just deal with running over some of the grass twice before mowing it? Or am I heading in the wrong direction?

Thanks for your help.

My father in law used to run a 7' finishing mower with an antique John Deere 40 with ease. The 40 probably had 25-30hp and an old 2 lunger engine. A lot depends on how tall & thick the pasture grass is and you can take a narrower pass with the mower if stuff is heavy. Take a full bite where the growth is lighter.
