found it thanks. I assume a stuck valve would cause my problem?

I looked at the hydrostatic transmission and there is a relief valve there (parts 29-33). There should be another one in the regular hydraulic system, too. I don't know which system your filter is for. Is there just one hydraulic filter?

yeah just one filter, its not a hydro, going to try to get it to the shop today, of course its out in a mud hole, the worse possible spot

You wouldn't expect to break in a clean heated garage would you :D

1000 hrs and then it fails sounds like something may be plugged or stuck. With out a schematic or some circuit know ledge would just be random guesses as to what happened.

Did this happen shortly after start-up or when it had been in operation and warmed up?

Chance of water in system that possibly froze.

Filter element close to being plugged and the by-pass couldn't handle all the flow.

In looking at the parts diagram I think this is a spin-on element like on a car. It also says it is the charge pump filter so it is possible the charge relief stuck closed but these usually fail open.

it was well warmed up, no freezing weather either. the first thing i did was replace the filter. it cracked also , this is expensive at 70 bucks a pop, plus gas to go get it. Today i tried running the bucket up to relieve pressure to move it , but it didnt seem to work. At least i was able to get the bucket and backhoe up and locked in place so i can move it, now hoping my jeep will do the job. I will know as soon as the wife gets home lol. would a stuck valve in the backhoe cause this? This couldnt have happened at a worse time for me . so any and all help is very much appreciated. ty in advance

I wouldn't think the BH should have any bearing on this unless you recently changed some plumbing or installed some new feature on the BH. I think this filter by the JD description supplies oil to the HST and the shuttle shift. In either case I suspect there is supposed to be some form of pressure or flow protection.

Where you driving the tractor when this happened or just sitting still using the BH?

For lack of better question, what exactly where you doing when the filter blew? Driving, using FEL , BH, etc.

Might help provide some more clues on where to look.

i was backing up and had a load on the front, cant remember if i was moving the fel or not. I did notice when i tried to move , it would not move, but i only had a few seconds b4 the pressure blew out the filter again, it is a shuttle shift. I assumed it wouldnt move because it was low on fluid. I ran it for about 15 seconds, enough time to raise the fel and bh, then tried to move.

I see what ur saying, I thought the filter was for everything. so its just for the shuttle shift?

Can't see your location. Is it cold? Have seen several machines blow the filter seal or break the filter can by running it up to high idle while the machine is cold. Have seen operator's manuals that say to run at an idle for 10 minutes at freezing, one half hour at zero, then cycle the hydraulics to distribute warm oil through the system. Also noticed today when building a JD CUT on their website that a hydraulic oil heater is a dealer installed option. I'm from Northern MN and up here it is the time of year for blown filters.

Am I correct in my assessment that this failure was while driving / using the shuttle shift? You say you managed to raise the BH & FEL with no problems.

If these are both true it would tend to point me towards some valve or component in the shuttle shift circuit failed. Parts break down shows there is a relief valve in the shuttle shift valve assembly. What I do not know is if this relief is active when shuttle is in neutral. My best guess is that the shuttle shift should be around 300 PSI but this is only a guess.

best of luck on finding an inexpensive solution.
