Odds are, they make more money for the manufacturer than what they save you.
One insurance that I think will pay off is always getting all your fluids and filters from the dealer, if you aren't having them do the maintenance. Have a record showing you are maintaining it at least to factory specs. If a problem does arise, you don't want it blamed on the oil you save $5 on, or even worse, the the Voodoo Oil you overpaid $25 on...
