I just purchased a used haybine after about one hour of use the pivoting cylinder started to leak. I have removed the cylinder from the haybine and purchased a repair kit. After removing the end plate which has 3 bolts I can not get the gland to come out. I am not sure if it threaded or held in with a snap ring. I have looked and there appears to be a snap ring but it is impossible to get any kind of pliers on it. I would appreciated any advice since I would like to cut some hay tommorrow. Thanks

Drive the gland further down into the barrel. Then retrieve the snap ring and pull the rod out; the gland will come with it.

I just hate having to buy a new or special tool!
