John Deere 2320
Any advice on when or when NOT to engage the 4WD on my 2320 (other than on pavement)?

Just curious from experience if theres something I shouldn't be doing that would be hard on the tractor?

Thanks-

Use it ONLY on slippery surfaces. The fronts actually turn faster that the rears and if there is no "slippage" then you can damage the drivetrain especially when turning.

Here is a good picture to ponder:

Do you have a FEL if son and you are going up or down slopes always use your 4wd, FWA, MFWD, or whatever you want to call it. The four wheel drive will offer braking effect. if you start down hill with the bucket full and do not have heavy ballast on the rear you may very well go for a very exciting ride. I have been there and do not want that again.

I would just leave 4wd in gear all the time because it will give you max traction and it will be lease of a chance of you getting stuck.

Yes but what is wrong with the machine that 4wd can't stay in gear all the time.

My Kubota has been in 4wd for 6 years. No pavement. 4 tire chains on turfs. Approx. 500 hrs. Unlike a 4x4 truck, these tractors should be designed for working in 4x4 and only should need disengagement on pavement. Often when I am using the blade, I will fill the bucket with sand to give more pulling power. Be interesting to see what the manual says about its use.

Ok so what will break on your machine if you leave it in 4wd all the time.

Just when I think I have seen it all from you.

Good advice though. Just as on a truck. Use it when you need it.

I put it in 4WD when I really need it. If not it is out.
