I am in the camp of use as needed, when not needed tractor is in 2 wheel drive.

I use 4WD a lot lately, even on pavement. I am working on improving a parking area and there is a retaining wall with about a 4' drop at one end of the area.

I will accept the extra wear in order to have the extra braking power, especially with a full loader and a 4' drop right in front of me.

OTOH, most of the time on pavement, 2WD is right.

I'm with dave here.. I leave mine in 4wd almost all the time.. I have a steep driveway, and some is paved.. A few times I have been in 2wd going down the pavement and well the pucker factor overruled my tire replacement factor...

Common sense should prevail...
