4x10 controls and ice/snow

Bill,

I used to pass through Iowa on I-80 many times in my travels back and forth from the east coast to Utah State where I went to college. Is it true that on a warm, still summer night in Iowa you can hear the corn grow? That's what I was told by a roommate from Iowa. I remember Iowa having some of the most beautiful and expansive corn fields I've ever seen.

Where did you do your backcountry excursions? Ever been to San Juan Wilderness or Uinta Mtns/Wind River Range? This is real beautiful, desolate country. I can understand your reference to the 'spiritual' experience.

How you coming on the JD 4310 purchase? I'm looking at inking my deal my end of this week. Will likely go with JD Credit or a combination of JD Credit and a loan from my employer's retirement system.

People say so; it's humid, the soil is black and rich and if you put things in the ground, they grow. My wife grew up in Louisiana and thought people had been burning the fields when she saw the color of the soil for the first time.

Ever been to San Juan Wilderness or Uinta Mtns/Wind River Range?

Had a wonderful 50 mile backpacking trip through Rio Grande National Forest into the San Juans. Crossed the Continental Divide several times on "trails" marked only with piles of stones. It looks like the Alps in that part of SW Colorado. Camped one night on a portion of the La Garita stock driveway (where they herd cattle from the summer range) and woke up among a herd of Elk that had spent the night. I vowed I would do as much as I could when younger, knowing that the knees would eventually give out -and they did.

We lived on the north side of the Winds near Lander for a while. Gorgeous and wild country; only a few places to drive across. The Grizzlies are migrating down the Winds from Yellowstone with many more contacts away from the parks - in one year there were 7 serious attacks. Each spring saw lots of Moose, deer, elk, you name it. As much time as I spent in the wilderness, Wyoming is almost scary (have a great respect for bear) it's still so wild in places. Sadly, it's become much more difficult to get away in Colorado due to Californication and other immigration. Still, there are wonderful places to go to get away. Living in Colorado in my 20s and 30s allowed for lots of exploration and some wild trips. Buried my first Golden, George in the Flattops wilderness where we used to go frequently -- he was a wonderful friend and companion in my single days. Well, I'm waxing nostalgic...

Thanks for asking about my deal, Bob. Got frustrated today; had an appointment with a dealer for 10 days; he was to meet me at the hospital where my practice is located to go over details of the 4310 and implements options -- called at noon and said a meeting came up that he couldn't get out of. This is the same person that had to be called back after he promised to send specs on the new tractors. I thought a deal with him would be good since he lives in my town and indicated he could drop off a tractor for a trial. My overall impression is that my business really isn't needed/appreciated. I feel as though I've given him ample opportunity.

In any event, the JD financing may be the way I'll go, too. I may try for a better interest deal at my bank (they are counting on financing the construction loan on our house).

Good luck on your purchase. Let us all know how you do and post some pictures!

Bill,

You bring back good memories with your recollection of your younger backcountry days. I've been to same areas as well as Wasatch Range, Sawtooth Mtns (Idaho), Bob Marshall Wilderness (MT), and the Teton backcountry. I really need to make it back there again while I can still do some hiking at a decent clip. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I feel like you with the dealers. I've got two price quotes in. Still waiting to hear from 3 other dealers. It seems to take follow-up phone calls and these guys still have a hard time coming up with a price quotation. I don't know if they really want my business. I may just go with one of the two dealers I've heard from. One of these is a very decent price. See My First 4710 Price Quote thread under JD Buying for specifics. Likely will decide on a dealer by end of week and make arrangements to sign a purchase order. Good luck with your 'hunt' for the 4310.

shouldn't these switches be the industrial wet enviroment type. Industrial suppliers have buttons that are completely submersible and freezeproof. Also many of the Deere backhoes have covers for their controls.
