4x20 cabin air filter

Waste of cleaner. But why even consider it, when the cabin filter comes right out by removing two simple thumbscrews? Remember, the owner manual is your friend.

By the way, how many of you have ever removed and washed the foam dust filters on the cab side of the evaporator.?

You are missing the point, no one is saying to leave the filter in place to clean it. I would not put coil cleaner on the dry filter element in any case. I looked at the evaporator and agree with Jim that access is too limited to do much good. Need to remove the lid to do anything with it.

It worked. Probably not the best. But a good quick fix. Got a lot of dirt out. Maybe use it as maintenance and do a yearly big clean?

I spray mine with coil cleaner every time I take the cabin filter out for cleaning. I do it with the circulation fan on high so the cleaner is drawn through the fins toward the interior. The stuff I use is not a pressurized aerosol, it has a sprayer head that's squeezed by hand. It's non-toxic, biodegradable, and all that crap. But what's more important, it's nicely scented. When you can smell it inside the cab, you know it's working.

If cab air filter is serviced and installed correctly no debris should ever make it to the evap. coils.The correct method to clean evaporator coil is remove cab roof and the cover that covers evaporator & get the debris out of that compartment.. Greg cleaning the coil the way you're doing it is similar to sweeping the floor and leaving the sweepings in the corner of the room. Debris is readily available to get back into coil. Believe me the cab roof & cover are relatively simple to remove. Operators with cab & AC need to understand that these AC systems operate in adverse conditions and to keep them operating at the maximum thy need all the correct maintenance they can get.

I looked at mine yesterday afternoon and will pull the top off to clean it up. Need to make a trip to the dealer for a new filter first. Gotta say the dust was real thick when using the tractor this year. I didn't have any problems with my filter edges coming apart as Darin's did but think that would be a sore point as much as the filters cost.

I do like the engine air filter setup with the double elements this seems to work well, my inner element always looks very clean. I remember my Donaldson pre filter cup on the 4020 would catch a huge amount of dust before it ever made it to the filters. That was a good design but no one wan'ts that sticking up above the hood anymore.

Concur. It's no coincidence that most of the visible debris on the filter side of the evap is white. And that's despite regular cleaning between annual filter changes. I'm currently on my 3rd filter in 2.5 years of ownership. If JD wouldn't charge an absurd $33+ for a cabin filter, I'd change it more often. Aftermarket is worse, NAPA wants over $40 for one.

I like that pre-filter idea though. I'm going to try a piece of thin foam cut to nest within the black seal border.

Im still on the hunt for a replacement filter that is built better....the closest filter I'v found that may fit is Fram CA3373 Extra Guard Flexible Panel Air Filter : Amazon.com : Automotive ......Im going to take a look at one with the JD filter in hand and see if its a good match....

Assuming it uses the same filter as does my 3720, that one won't work. As installed, it would be both too tall and too narrow. I just measured mine, it slots into a cavity that's 14-1/8" by 4-1/8"
