From Yanmar FAQ:

 What is Yanmar’s status with regards to the upcoming EPA Tier II emission regulations?

We have already completed the design of our new TNV engine liquid-cooled series, which will comply with these new regulations. We have incorporated our own, new fuel injection technology along with some re-design to the combustion system to meet these tough new regulations. We have maintained a great deal of commonality to the current TNE series which will minimize the impact to our current OEM customers. Also, we have obtained a significant decrease in noise levels with the new TNV series. Our current plans are to provide samples to our customers two years in advance of the Tier II regulations going into effect.


Tier II takes place 2007 if I am not mistaken...

With regard to off-road fuel most everyplace I buy from the only difference between on-road and off-road fuel is the dye.

( Only way I could see just an engine change being worth a series number is if they were no longer Yanmar engines! )

I was told this past Saturday at my JD dealer that the new 4720 due out this Summer is no longer a Yanmar engine, but a John Deere engine. The salesman I spoke to said this was about all he knew of the new model details and he was not sure why they would swap engines because as he put it, "The Yanmars are bullet-proof"

Wow. Now that would be major. In the long run I personally would consider it a plus 'politically' if that is actually a US-built JD engine used. But the Yanmar's have certainly proven themselves and while I haven't heard anything but praise for the bigger JD diesels - I don't think JD currently makes a series here that would fit so that would have to be a new line? Oh I sure hope they beat / are beating the tar out of them before final production run starts.

If Deere dumps the Yanmar engines for their engine in the larger chassis 4720, will they eventually put a Deere engine in the small- and mid-size chassis machines?

Just noticed that the Deere "Configurator" now includes the message...

 "BASE MACHINE MENU CODES ARE FOR REFERENCE ONLY. DO NOT ORDER." 

...on the large chassis models. Mid-chassis message hasn't changed.

Its doubtful the plant supervisor for the engine manufacturing plant working with me last season and we talked about the engine and tractor plants. He said most deere engines are not put in there tractors but actualy sold for generators etc. I would say they simply are putting in a larger engine for that class tractor or having supply issues or possibly cost reduction. JD/yanmar has many joint ventures including transmission manufacturing plant in sc and several other joint ventures around the world its doubtful they will ever make engines for cuts. I'm not exactly for sure the scope of there production of engines but it would be doubtful they would replace the yanmar engines in all there small tractors. Tho i could be wrong there hurting right now sales are way down on the small units. however big ticket premium products are moving big time as of the last of this week.
