Yep that's for fishing rods alright.

No we don't use them in the bush, but on the beach we use rods 11 & 13 feet long to get out past the breakers.

Do you guys do "surf fishing" as we call it??

I love this site. Learning so much about your customs etc.

Looks like you guys are learning some OZ customs too !!

Cheers

Neil,
There is a lot of surf fishing here on the east coast of the US. I use an Alvey reel on a 10 foot rod.
Alvey makes great reels, easy to cast a long way and never any tangles in the line. I also like the fact
that they are a simple design and easy to maintain. You fishermen should check them out at:

Quite a bit of surf fishing done along the Texas coast also. I've done just a very little bit of it myself; too much work; prefer fishing off piers, jetties, or boats./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Alvey ! - Wow yet another Australian idea in America !!!!

Yep they started out in Brisbane, my home town.

They are all I use as there is nothing to go wrong with them. Sand and salt don't worry them!!

Bird. now I thought Texas was in the middle of the desert or something. You have a coast ??

Maybe I need to get out my Atlas............

Shoot Neil the Texas coast has got some of the finest beaches in the world. Texas has got it all from mountains to deserts to beaches, anything. When I was in college or when we were down there for rodeos we made a few trips down there to beaches. Lots of sight seeing /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Well yea I guess I really meant hills. I did mean it loosely. Really what I was trying to say is that there is a varied terrain from one end of the state to the other.
