A fellow at my work has a 5.5 ft box blade made by - Independent Manufacturing Company of Neodesha, KS. I haven't gone to look at it yet, but I thought I would try here to see if any one had one or used one. I'm guessing it is older. He said that it doesn't have any ripper teeth but they could be ordered from Agri-Supply for $11 each. He is asking $200. Any thoughts? Thanks.

That sounds like a good deal, even if it's in rough shape. Even as scrap that seems like a reasonable price. Has to weigh over 400#?

I have a rear blade about that size from them that came with my tractor, a very solid tool well built:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Like everything else I'd take a look at it.
Be a great deal espiecially if that box blade had a hindged floorplate(wishful thinking right).
I think "IMCO" was bought out by Southeast Manufacturing and Big OX.
Don't think either still around.
I could be wrong but I think what was left of their inventory ended up in Texas bought up at auctions.
Modern Equip./ or Dragon still has products some of those old parts that might be hard to find.

$200 bucks plus maybe 5 rippers plus tax and your 3 point pins if you need-em is a good deal.I don't think you'll find quality ripper teeth at 11 bucks a piece though.
Also there are different "styles" of teeth. There not all the same. Then you'll need pins/keys etc,to hold=em in place they don't come with-em at least the ones I've seen.
Hope this helps.

Kind of hard to go wrong with a 5.5ft BB for $200, even if it is light-medium duty, and especially if it's not bent up or has any re-welded breaks on it.

When IMCO was in business, we were a dealer for the products they made. They were as tough as nails and value priced. I ran a lot of the equipment on my own farm in the late seventies and early eighties. Ken Sweet

Thanks for the feeback. I decided to buy it. It is for sure a heavy piece. I'll try to post some photos tonight.

I finally got around to posting photos of the 5.5 foot box blade. I guess I shouldn't have taken the seller's word on how easy it would be to find ripper shanks. How do I know if I need the type with front notches or rear notches? Does any one have a good lead on where to source some?

It looks like you need the ones with no notches. The problem is going to be how to secure the ones from Agri Supply if that is your choice.

Your box blade will need "keepers" welded to each side of the slots for a pin to go through. Otherwise the shanks will just slide up and down when you try to do work with them.

Bent re-bar, some oversized nuts, or specially fabbed pieces of metal with holes are necessary. Then the pin (which will also have to be purchased) can go through the shank and the "keepers" on each side of the slots.

If you don't weld or fab you'll have to find a neighbor to do it. Oversized nuts that the pin will go through would be the easiest and quickest. It doesn't matter if the pin rattles around a bit.
