When I changed the hydraulic oil in my MF 265, with a ROPS cab, I just taped a piece of thick plastic that was bigger than the fill point on the added rubber funnel addition. Worked great. I also zipp tied the funnel to the shifter so it wouldn't move while pouring the oil in.

Yup,

A good rule to follow is:

Always be careful about what you stick into the hole in your rear end.

Close calls like you had just scare me to death. Here's another solution that I found to be most valuable, useful for gasoline, oil, water, diesel, and yes - even hydraulic fluid:

S&L-Winyer Battery-Operated Liquid Transfer Pump Color Red,Fuel Transfer Pump for Gasoline; $16.98 on Amazon.

Nice advantage - no lifting, no drips, and no dropped tubing into tank.

The proper funnel is cheap and lasts a long time. Good reminder to use the proper tools.

Smart thinking on your part.

You can now start your own colonoscopy business. You have the borescope and the claw reachy thing.

as soon as i had a hose taped to a funnel trying to fill the front axle on my tractor, i got on amazon and ordered a metal funnel with a flexible metal end. i was thinking, this could go bad in a few ways. better to spend 10 bucks.

Next time add a worm gear clamp to hold it in place or two zip ties. Leave the ends on the zip tie so if it falls that will prevent it from falling all the way in.

As somebody in the age group that regularly gets colonoscopies, I'm going to suggest that he get more practice NOT losing things in there before he opens up shop.

And get a new claw reachy thing that doesn't have gear oil in its works, while he's at it.
