I thought CH-4 was the newest rating for the oil./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Bird I've seen F but no H's on the jugs we have here, they may be labels printed before the new ratings.

Probably, Art. I'm using Chevron's Delo 400 15W-40 and the container shows API ratings CH-4, CH, CG, CF (and I've forgotten what else) on one side and on the other is a label that says "Exceeds CH-4 Performance".

This attachment is from the API website. The CF rating is the current off-road, high sulpur diesel oil rating. There are 4 other ratings up to the CH-4 rating which is the highest rating for high speed diesels.

John,
You have me thinking about hydro fluids. In the past, several people have said that they found a fair amount of metal filings on their strainers at 50 hrs. Would the filings to small to be hung up in the strainer be a bad thing to leave in the system? If so, would it be possible to drain, filter and reuse the fluid? I know it would be a mess, but at $20 per gal. it might be worth doing. I would agree that the fluid should last well over 50 hrs if it were not for the metal filings.

Mark,

First, if I found minute particles of metal in my filter... I'd be very unhappy...{You'd have to think...what is wearing... where is it coming from... not normal} I've never ever had it happen on any gear tractor I've owned.

I would certainly change all the hydraulic fluid with new fluid... never used. You can choose between $4 or $20./gal...

That's why God gave us choices... You don't have to buy the $20./gallon hydraulic fluid because the can/jug matches your tractors color. I have to trust the manufacturer of the $4. /gallon fluid because his label is certified by the API and clearly states it's an equivalent fluid for my JD, NH, Massey, Kubota or whatever... {I've been trusting the labels for years... hasn't failed yet}

So whether it's fluid in 5 gallon pails from Sams Club, Walmart... I'm not brand loyal... as long as it meets the spec's and so states.

On the other hand, if you're bringing your tractor down to Byrd Station, Antarctica, you may want to consider the $20./gallon synthetic fluid that will flow @ -38 degrees...{the normal $4.gal. is only good to -34 degrees} /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Sorry John Miller, III,
You don't have to go that far to get -38, just come up to Winnipeg in the end of January, beginning og February and it will be as cold.
That why there are so many Snowbirds, my Dadis one, flockig down to Arizon and similar warm states.
Merry Christmas.

If you saw -38 coming you'd flap just as hard and just as fast in the opposite direction.
