I wouldn't blame you for going either way... but if it was me... I'd go ahead and do it even though your a little shy on hours. Doing the initial service a little early isn't a bad thing anyway.

My dealer recommends an oil and filter change at 25 hrs......

Your dealer wants to make money.

One poster already touched on this, but it's possible that Kubota shipped the tractor with "break-in" oil... and they feel it's important to run it for the full 50 hours?? My wife's Honda hybrid owner's book even says that if for any reason you change the oil before 10,000 miles, you should finish the distance using their special oil. Maybe a Kubota guy can tell us if there's any reason to do one or the other? Clean fluids certainly make sense for storage.

The season is over for my '07 BX24. I do not plan on using it for snow removal so it is ready to be put to bed. I currently have 35 hours on it. Does conventional wisdom dictate I do the 50 hour service now? Honestly, I would rather do it at 50 hours but if folks here think it is better to put it away with clean fluids and filters, then that is the way I will go. Plan on doing it myself, since after reading how it is done on this forum it does seem pretty easy. I guess I have no reason for not doing it except time and expense and not wanting to waste fossil fuels if it is unnecessary. The tractor will be garaged all winter...Any thoughts? Thanks, in advance.

It took me 2 years to get 50 hrs on my Kubota...so I waited until I did have the 50 hours. BUT..when I did service it...I went by the book and serviced everything...every filter...every fluid...every grease fitting...etc..etc.

Hyd fluid wait:
Engine oil: you are going to let dirty oil sit in an un-used item all winter?

So....a bit off track here but relevant... does Kubota use break in engine oil from the factory? thanks bb

Thanks, for the replies. As I suspected, there are good arguments on both sides. If for no other reason, I think I am going to wait. As an owner of two boats (both with twin engines) a big diesel pickup and a Kubota tractor, I am getting kind of sensitive to all of the earth's resources I am consuming. Now, I would never advocate not doing or using something if it is going to cause issues with mechanical systems, but if I have an opportunity to save a few quarts here and there, and burn a few less gallons here and there, I just feel like I need to do it. Anyway, you guys, as usual, have been great. Thanks.

Depends on the oil used.. Could be a good thing or bad.

How so?

This chestnut comes up every time an early oil change question is posted.

AFAIK there have been NO posts with a definitive answer by someone who actually knows. But that does not stop the endless speculation on both sides of the early oil change discussion

FWIW I'd love to be proved wrong. If we have a factory rep online, please just post one way or the other ;)
