50 hour service

I did like the book said , drained at 50 hrs . The cost of machinery is expensive . Preventive maintenance is cheaper . The next drain is not until another 300 hrs. ( a couple of years away ) . I used the MF hydraulic filter and MF hydraulic oil . Peace of mind

Absolutely!! How much is peace of mind worth? To me - priceless.
I hope no one has any type of failures, but for those that do not change the Hyd/trans fluid because the dealer told you it was unnecessary, I hope you have a written statement from him signed by the owner stating he will pay for any repair should it get denied by the manufacture based on lack of proper maintenance.

You spend $15,000+ for a tractor. Why cheap out on hyd fluid? Even buying the BC over priced hyd oil I only paid about $350 for my filters and oil. All genuine BC. That is only 2.3% of the value to spend on your tractor maintenance.

I agree with canada why buy a great tractor and then chose to not take care of it? Guess its just me but i changed everything like my manul said and I bought everything from my dealer and was under $300. not bad at all i thought.

Did the 50 hour fluid and filter change on my CT335 today. Gave it some run time before draining. There was no metal on the drain plug or filter magnets, but there was a significant amount of black iron fines that drained from the main sump plug. It was enough to give the oil a cloudy appearance. The oil that drained from the filters and the final drives all ran clear. After seeing the amount of fines that were laying in the sump I'm glad that I drained the oil.

It seems like my dealer did me right on the materials. The hydraulic oil, engine oil, front axle oil, both hydro filters, engine oil filter, inner and outer air, and fuel filter ran about $340.

They do in fact mention those plugs and show them but thanks anyhow.

Another question what do you drain 11 gallons into? Or do you stop after several quarts and empty then repeat?

When I did my 50 hr service I was advised to purchase a plastic container used to mix concrete with.(thanks TBN members) It easily held the 8-9 gals of Hydraulic oil my TYM T353HST held and is shallow enough to fit under your tractor and was ea$y on the wallet. I have no doubt that it will hold 11 gals.

Not sure if that was meant for me and my lab suggestion, or using off-brand hydraulic fluid that others have suggested.

Doing oil analysis and basing replacement on the results is not cheaping out. It's military standard operating procedure, at least with the USAF. And manufacturers do honor the warranty for Uncle Sam in those cases. Talk to your dealer, or your manufacturer to be sure though.

NOPE. It was meant for not changing fluid at all.

I am a pilot and aircraft owner. I know about oil analysis. I do it on my aircraft engine.

What does an oil analysis cost to get done, is it something you take to a local lab and can get results same day? I work at a power plant and we don't ever change oil either, just gets filtered and tested.

Thanks,

I use a company called, "Staveley Services Canada Inc." here in Canada. You have to buy at min 10 kits and the last time they were something like $10 - 14 a kit. Then you take the sample and mail it to them and you get the results in about a week (online) and then paper hard copy in another week.

I ended up changing all fluids today for the 50 hour service. The drain plug on the transmission had some flakes stuck to the magnet. How much is normal? Does this usually stop after break in fluid change? I attached a few pics of the plug.

Checking the bolts all around the tractor I found the lug nuts a little loose, not too bad.

All and all it checked out good.
