5075E blowing start fuse when turning key

Welcome to TBN
I'm glad you found the answer to your blown fuse problem. One would think since JD utility tractors have a long history since the mid 90's(20+yrs) of blowing fuse from a shorted sensor that JD engineers would have discovered a solution but I guess not.

I started my 5045D yesterday after it had not been run for 4 months. It started immediately as always but died after 15-30 seconds and will now crank but not restart. It is a 2014 model with 315 hours. The fuel tank is 3/4 full. I operated the bleeder mechanism on the fuel filter and it is full of fuel, there was no air to be purged.

I took a voltmeter and measured the voltage at the injector pump with the key in the run position. It is showing battery voltage, 12-13 volts with the key on. Does this mean the fuse is not blown? I will check the fuses later today. What should be next in trouble shooting this problem? The tractor has been trouble-free for 4 years until this situation.

When was the last fuel filter change?

My guess is since it sat for so long that the fuel drained back and there is an air pocket in the injection pump. Loosen the line at the injection pump that comes from the filter. pump the primer pump until there is a good flow of fuel there and then tighten te fitting. Then keep pumping the primer while someone cranks the engine, It should start after cranking for 30-60 seconds hopefully.

The fuel filter was last changed at 100 hours, but that was in 2015.
I finally got it going. I drained a little fuel from the tank and ftom the current filter; no evidence of any water or sediment. Then I replaced the filter with new and primed and purged it like crazy; I did not disconnect the line to the pump, but after about 30-40 seconds it started. Funny thing is after I saw a few puffs of smoke I decided to try the thermo-start and that did it. I have never had to use the start heater in the past; it was 50 degree F today.

So I don't know, clogged filter or air in the line, but it's running. I guess from now on I change the filter annually regardless of hours. Thank for all advice.

Annually?? You need to be changing the filter 2x a year..
a 20.00 filter is ALOT cheaper than an injection pump overhaul..

LOL, if I did it that often, then I'd be doing it every 20-30 gal of fuel... but that is just a loose guess.. :D

JD Operator Manual recommends once per year or 500 hours, whichever comes first.

JD doesn't buy 800.00 inj. pump overhauls, you do..
So its 40.00 a year in preventive maint. or take your chances w/ the manual.. just tryin to help..

I am having the same problem with my 5075e. We disconnected the cold start advance and replaced the fuse but the tractor will not start. It doesn't crank at all. What other suggestions are out there?
