Hey guys,

My 2012 5085M has developed an issue with the 3pt hitch during raising. It is very choppy, as in, not smooth at all, during the raising of an implement. Here's a quick video I took from the cab. If you look at the cab/window frame at the lower portion of the video, you can see how the cab frame is moving up and down.

The loader is as smooth as ever, it is only the 3pt hitch that is affected. It doesn't matter if it is hot or cold outside, or if the tractor has warmed up or not. I got under 700 hours on it.

Last summer I added some hydraulic fluid (although it wasn't really all that low) and that seemed to help for a little while, but the issue returned within a month or so. Fluid is currently in the middle of the range.

Any ideas?

Any particular reason to not have it filled up? The jumping reminds me of lack of oil. Does the hyd filter need to be changed? Maybe the screen needs to be cleaned?

I'll go ahead and top it off just to see if it makes a difference. But if the issue was due to low oil, would the front hydraulics not be impacted as well? No issue with power steering either, but I know that use a separate pump.

The hydraulic filter (and oil) was changed at 500 hours, so less than 200 hours ago.

You did not mention if you cleaned the pick-up screen. I assume your tractor has one just like mine does. While not as jerky as yours, the 3PT on my 5210 was not smooth when going up and down. The loader worked fine. I replaced the just the hydraulic filter and the 3PT now moves up and down smoothly. I did have 400 hours on the filter. I was surprised how little fluid I lost just changing the filter.

That is strange with having normal loader operation.:confused3:

I had that same "choppy" action on my previous tractor. I checked everything and finally discovered that the manual speed knob - raise/lower the 3-point - had mysteriously been almost completely closed off. I opened it up to the half-way point and all the choppiness went away.

I don't know this for a fact, but if the loader actually takes a slower flow of fluid and the hitch takes a higher flow and "if" there is some sort of blockage some place that is slowing the hyd flow, then it makes sense for the 3pt to lift as it is.

Your right Brian, my mind automatically just went all the way to fluids - filters and lastly, pump. In other words, the easy fix first.

Yup.. Remember it well. Everything's been all good with my 75M since that warranty fix. No problems whatsoever.

I'd buy another M in a heartbeat! Deere did good by me and Bigfoot.

Sorry guys, been away for a while. So as it turns out, the issue went away completely once I put the bush-hog on the back, which is much heavier (2,600 lbs vs. 800 lbs). I have since switched back to the log grapple and the issue has not returned. Perhaps if I leave the light grapple on there for a while, the symptoms will develop again?

I'm still going to check the screen, etc, but it least it seems there was nothing wrong that required immediate attention.

I too remember reading that hydraulic manifold case. I'm glad that doesn't appear to be the issue as I'm long out of warranty!

That's good news, indeed! I haven't looked at my OM in awhile or the Tech manual but, I don't think the M series has a sump screen. Just that big, screw on filter on the pump manifold.

I bought a chain-ratchet filter wrench to change that filter.

I think the manual calls for a filter change @ 600 hrs.

There actually is a filter AK. Here's what mine looked like at 100 hrs:

And the mysterious o-ring fragments I found inside:

I did a full service, including new filter at 100 hrs. My old vs. new fluid:

I'm at a little under 700 hrs, so maybe it is almost time to do it again.

Hmmm... Appreciate that info. I'm just over 600hrs on the 75M and plan on a change-out this Spring. Have to do some homework, beforehand.
