Ok, so have opportunity to purchase a mid 80s Kubota with loader and backhoe attachment.

Hours are on high side at 5500, condition is obvious outdoor stored with surface rust and deep paint fade, and based on description it痴 a bit rough running starting out and how is slower than norm.

Now price wise - it痴 obvious in need of help, but even clean used I壇 expect to be 15-20k...this is priced at 7500.

Price seem reasonable or too high? I知 thinking about it just because my slight my nicer MF of comparable size with a thousand less hours and no hoe sold for over 11k last year...so obviously prices are on high side.

Worst case - what would it cost to rebuild engine ? 7500? And then I have a suitable running machine for 15k...doesn稚 sound horrible to me.

I might feel around - I壇 be much more comfortable at 5k range..but still seems like a lot of machine with a good track record for the price. Minimal electronics and still plenty of support.

send detailed pics... would be very cautious on this one, good homework on posting it here
maybe more like half that price, then you'd be stuck w/repair you could do better but dig into a little deeper for your satisfaction
then sleep on it

I would not touch a rough, high hours tractor that had a loader on it. Nor a plow triuck for the same reason.

I bought an 82 vintage Kubota L275 with Loader and Bt600 3PT BH for $4500 in 1997, with under 500 hrs with a single axle trailer, but it was stored outside, tires were dry cracked, and loaded rims with salt were rusted thru, and it looked rough, dents and dings, but engine and tranny and it ran well.

So replaced tires, welded the rims, took apart the BH, loader, and everything was sandblasted and painted two coats then replaced hoses, seals in most of the cylinders. Essentially it looked nearly new when done and I ran that for two years and sold it in 99 for $10.5K. Investment was about $3000 not including labor.

It would need to be a bigger unit or better/rebuilt condition to spend $7500 for a machine with 5500 hours.

Rough looking with a loader and 5500 hours?
Engine needs rebuild, transmission may need rebuild (?) needs new tires (?) hyd. hoses (?) hyd. cylinders rebuild (?), battery (?) water pump (?) radiator (?) engine hoses (?) Injectors (?) injector pump (?) seat (?) etc.,etc.
Your "suitable running machine for 15K" will eventually cost you 23K +, and ......
You will then have a 35+ year old faded/rusty Kubota, with a possible re-sale value of 12K.

If thats all you can afford, I understand. Ive been in the position of farming and excavating with relics and old equipment.
If you can afford more, I would buy a cleaner machine, especially if youre planning on spending 7500 for rebuilt engine, then spend 7500 on a better overall machine.
