Oil & Fuel 50hr service & gripe about shop manual...

Gripe first - I gotta say I think it is RIDICULOUS that for approx $70 the flipping service manual does not actually LIST the DK50se, just the 35 and 40.

I'm also peeved it does not have a detailed "Maintenance" section. I was hoping for a little guidance to make sure a n00b like me did not miss something. Crappy Chilton's manuals are better. When I was in HS, I used to just borrow my step-dads Motor manuals and even as a punk I could do all regular maintenance, and brake jobs, remove heads to get valves done, etc.

This manual is full of data but not actually very useful in my opinion. I am sorely tempted to return it to the dealer.

So, can anybody give me a ball park on how long the 50 hr service takes? I am NOT replacing the hyd fluid until 100 hrs, but I am replacing the filter.

If not replacing the hydraulic fluids and filters the 50 hour maintenance should be an easy 2 hours. I found all filters ridiculously tight and needed a ratchet strap wrench to remove them. The engine filter housing turned slightly before the filter finally broke loose, and the hydraulic filter buckled.

When you do change the hydraulic oil don't miss the drain plugs in the final drives. They are not mentioned in the Maintenance section of the owner's manual.

Also, the loader manual calls for re-torguing loader bolts every 25 hrs. My dealer recommends blue Loctite or similar for the loader bolts.

Since I have a DK35, the workshop manual mentions my tractor. Although I would never attempt more complex jobs outlined in the service manual I think it is valuable in understanding the tractor. Also from what I have read on TBN I get the impression I'm most likely to need it for electrical problems, which I likely can handle.

I have the DK 35 and as a new guy to tractors, thought I'd get the manual. Not very usefull for the work I've done to date. When you do the hyd fluids, ensure you have the proper size drain pan as it is hard to stop the draining when your pan gets full, (from personal experience). The engine and front axles are no problem.

Does the manuals cover FEL and Backhoe????What about Parts Manual Any of you guys get that.?

If the service manual does not specifically list the DK 50 specifications for the engine, transmission, front axle, etc. its useless for you IMO. Send it back.
I have an older service manual for my DK 35, don't know if the newer manuals have improved or not . My manuals not bad, but its not that good either. Doesn't go into enough detail.
My Kawasaki motorcycle service manuals on the other hand are excellant, it goes into every detail. Puts my Kioti service manual to shame. Kioti should ckeck out the Kawasaki service manuals to see how it should be done.

I agree on bike manuals.I have every service manual and parts book from 1930 to 1995 Harley Davidson, And those are the best written books I've seen.I liked Motors for auto's.

My dealer mistakenly supplied the older DK35 manual before replacing it with the DK35 SE manual. The DK35 SE manual is MUCH better with more photos and details.

Does your manual have drawings of the new SE tractors? The one I have has pictures of the old DK35/40.

I believe I have the DK 35, 40, 45 SE manual.

It does not ist the DK 50, and I do not think it covers the FEL (but I need to go look at it again).

I am certain it does not cover the backhoe though. But it does cover the cab systems (I have open station).
